How we handle air source heat pumps in Lindfield
Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. If you are dealing with questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and checking whether planning permission is needed, we can help.
If your home near Lindfield has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. Where yours does, a regular service with us keeps that side in order and each visit is recorded.

Air source heat pumps around Lindfield
The middle of Lindfield is part of the Lindfield Conservation Area. 3 conservation areas lie within a mile of central Lindfield. Historic England lists about 94 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Lindfield, including The Manor House (grade II*). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with Mid Sussex council, usually the planning authority here before the heat pump design is finished. VOA council tax data date about 42% of homes in and around Lindfield to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 72% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
Ockenden Manor, roughly 2.7 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings. Live in one of the older houses around All Saints Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

System by system
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
There’s one grant per property, and you cannot get a grant to replace a low-carbon system. Hybrids are excluded.
Hot water cylinders
Existing cylinders may not be suitable for a heat pump and we tell you if it needs replacing.
What air source heat pumps can’t fix
We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so here are the limits:
- Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation
- Disconnecting or servicing a gas boiler
- Tax advice on your own circumstances
Not sure which it is? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Common questions in Lindfield
Is the heat pump grant available in Lindfield?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Lindfield is in England, where it applies. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.
Will you come out to Lindfield?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.
Do you work on all makes?
We install and work on the leading makes, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.
Will I need planning consent for an air source heat pump?
Under the Planning Portal rules, a heat pump on a house can often be permitted development. Listed buildings are excluded, and listed building consent is separate. We check what applies to you.
The process
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. The work itself takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Lindfield can typically be finished in one visit.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
- The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
- We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
