Air source heat pumps in Hollingrove, done properly
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than most boilers which means some radiators may need upsizing. We check each radiator against the room’s heat loss, and the quote sets it out. If the problem is a boiler that’s getting old and checking whether planning permission is needed, we can help.
Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Hollingrove, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.
Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

Heat pumps in Hollingrove: local notes
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures put about 42% of homes across Hollingrove and its surrounding area before 1919, and about 80% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Period properties can still suit a heat pump, but the design has to start from accurate heat loss figures. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.
If your home is listed, like Bateman's about 2.2 miles north-west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work.
Hollingrove is about 8 miles north of Bexhill-on-Sea, in East Sussex. From the centre of Hollingrove to the outskirts, our engineers cover air source heat pumps, from small jobs to large ones. Count every place we list in East Sussex and you reach 289, with Hollingrove on the list. Eastbourne, roughly 13 miles off, has its own page on this site.
Not far from Hollingrove, a recent job of ours was on High Street, Battle (TN33), about 5 miles south-east: installing two Samsung wall-mounted units in the dining room and a single unit in the kitchen preparation area.
From Hollingrove Road and Kent Lane to the smaller roads in between, the whole area is covered. Our working area takes in TN32. Hollingrove questions
Do you cover smaller places like Hollingrove?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Will a heat pump in Hollingrove need planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. A conservation area takes in the middle of Hollingrove. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot face a road. Where needed, we check with the planning department at Rother council, typically the authority for Hollingrove.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Which accreditations do you hold?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re also Checkatrade members.
What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?
Homes pay 0% VAT on a heat pump installation until 31 March 2027, then 5%. Hotels and businesses pay the standard rate. Please treat this as general information, not tax advice.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
How soon will you get back to me?
The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.
What owners can safely do
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, short and simple:
- Use the settings explained at handover
- Leave indoor units unobstructed
- Keep the MCS certificate with the manufacturer’s paperwork
In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit runs a defrost cycle from time to time. It may give off steam or sound different for a few minutes and it’s part of how the system works.
Book a service every year. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.
The process
Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. The visit takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in Hollingrove.
- First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
- Installation follows on the agreed dates.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Let us know where the consumer unit is
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
Getting a price
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. Once we’ve looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, ring us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.
Advice
When to call us in Hollingrove
Many enquiries start with a question about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Whether you can get the grant depends on your home and the scheme conditions, so we check before you commit.
Any of these is worth a proper look:
- Checking whether planning permission is needed
- Not knowing whether a grant applies
- Moving away from fossil-fuel heating
Live in one of the older houses around The Parish Church of St Thomas A Becket? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.
Comparing quotes
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
- Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why
- Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
