Air source heat pumps in Hawridge

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Hawridge

Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, then 5%. That follows HMRC Notice 708/6, and it does not apply to businesses, and for air-to-air systems we confirm the VAT on your quote. Please treat this as general information rather than tax advice. If the problem is no space for a hot water cylinder and not knowing whether a grant applies, we can sort it out.

For a home around Hawridge that is off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, on top of the £7,500.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

Leave it or put it right?

The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water works with radiators and a cylinder, with a £7,500 grant for eligible homes, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms and has a £2,500 grant only in limited cases, and we explain which fits your home. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or send an email, and we will explain what it covers.

Hawridge questions

Is Hawridge within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Hawridge?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Hawridge is in England, where it applies. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and isn’t an add-on to a boiler. You do not apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

Which type of heat pump is right for my home?

Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling, and we help you choose. Both are part of what we install.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that can’t wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

Companies working on equipment that contains F gas must be certified by an approved body, and the engineers need their own qualifications. It’s how you know the refrigerant is being handled legally and safely.

Do you have a 24/7 line?

Yes. Our emergency line runs 24/7 for breakdowns that cannot wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

After we have gone

A little care keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Book a yearly service
  • Look at insulation alongside the heat pump
  • Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover

Handover includes the controls and how to get the best from a heat pump. Heat pumps tend to work best running steadily rather than in short bursts, and we will explain the settings for your home.

Have the system serviced regularly. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.

What happens on the day

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, which takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Rural lanes and tight entrances are worth mentioning before a visit to Hawridge.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

Before we arrive

  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
  • Clear access to the fuse board

Some jobs can be priced from photos, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Heat pumps in Hawridge: local notes

The 2021 Census found about 80% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Houses typically have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. The Cholesbury and Hawridge Conservation Area is within about a third of a mile of the centre of Hawridge. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 8 within half a mile of the centre, such as Boxtree Cottage (grade II). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the local planning authority (typically Buckinghamshire council) before the heat pump design is finished.

Cholesbury Manor House, roughly 0.9 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings. Older homes near Church of St Mary may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.
