Air source heat pumps in Eden Park

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Eden Park

Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. Conditions include a maximum outdoor unit size of 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), use for more than cooling alone and a site outside the curtilage of a listed building. We look at the planning position for your home during the survey. Typical jobs include deciding on the outdoor unit position and checking eligibility for a heat pump grant, on radiator systems, air-to-air heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps.

For flats in Eden Park, the lease, the freeholder and the rules for flats all come into it. Permitted development limits are different for flats, and we check before designing.

Warranty periods vary by brand and by product. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and its longer extensions apply to its air-to-water units only. Whatever the brand, the manufacturer’s terms are explained on your quote.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.

Honest limits

Air source heat pumps can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • Promising eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades

Not sure which it is? You can call 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we will tell you honestly.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Underfloor heating
  • Radiator systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

How it works

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we’ve done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Some blocks in Eden Park need contractor details in advance, so tell us what your building needs.

  1. First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
  2. The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
  3. We explain which type of heat pump suits the home and whether a grant could apply.
  4. The system is installed and connected to the controls.
  5. After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board

Why it’s worth doing now in Eden Park

The extra £1,500 for homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas is available until March 2027. If that applies to you, it’s worth asking about sooner rather than later. Approvals for flats in Eden Park can take longer than the install itself.

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we’ll explain each part.

What a heat pump looks like in Eden Park

The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 64% of homes in and around Eden Park date from 1919 to 1939, and about 52% of households live in terraced houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Homes of that age often have cavity walls that may or may not be insulated, which the survey checks. Terraced houses share walls with neighbours, which helps, but the outdoor unit position needs care with noise next door. London homes can be short of space for an outdoor unit and cylinder, which affects the choice of heat pump.

With Bromley Palace about 2.2 miles north-east, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump. If your home is one of the older properties near St John's Eden Park, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

Questions from Eden Park

Is the heat pump grant available in Eden Park?

Eden Park is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Can you fit air conditioning in a London flat in Eden Park?

Often, yes, but the lease and the freeholder usually have a say. Permitted development rules for flats are tighter than for houses, so we check the outdoor unit position and give you the details to send to the freeholder or managing agent.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we will suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, usually whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
