Air source heat pumps around East End
About 75% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
Period properties close to St Margaret's Church can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first. Smallhythe Place lies about 5 miles south-east. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions.
East End is about 11 miles west of Ashford, in Kent. Homes and businesses alike in East End, we can help with air source heat pumps. We reply to enquiries the same working day, and there’s a 24/7 emergency line. We cover 922 places across Kent. For properties nearby, see our Eastbourne page (25 miles or so).
Our nearest recent job to East End was on Mermaid Street, Rye (TN31), about 11 miles south-east: installing three Fujitsu wall-mounted units in guest bedrooms, with the outdoor units positioned in the hotel’s walled rear garden.
Wood Lane, Mockbeggar Lane and Jackson Way and the roads off them are all inside our area. Our working area takes in TN17 in full. Nearby, we also cover air source heat pumps in Fosten Green (1 mile north), Clapper Hill (1 mile north-east), Parkgate (1 mile east), West Cross (2 miles south) and Strood (2 miles south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidstone (13 miles north), Ashford (11 miles east), Foley Park (14 miles north) and Paddock Wood (12 miles north-west).

How we handle air source heat pumps in East End
Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home; adding it alongside a boiler does not qualify. We’re often asked to deal with not knowing whether a grant applies and a boiler that’s getting old, across hot water cylinders, radiator systems and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.
If your home in or near East End is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.
Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

Looking after your system
Looking after it is simple, and it helps at the next service:
- Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover
- Don’t block radiators or indoor units with furniture
- Keep the outdoor unit clear all year
Where we applied for a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, we keep you informed through the process since the grant goes through the installer.
Keep radiators and indoor units unobstructed, as the system relies on them giving out heat.
East End questions
Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in East End?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. Central East End sits inside a conservation area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the local planning authority (for East End, normally Ashford council).
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in East End?
East End is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and is not an add-on to a boiler. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A typical installation takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short, and we explain it in advance.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we will agree what happens next.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. You get a written record of each visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. A fixed-price quote follows.
What affects the quote in East End
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
- The number of rooms, units or zones
- What kind of system it is
The pipe route, the height of the units and how we reach them all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote and give you a fixed price before work begins.
What to send for a quote
A few details help us quote accurately. With your enquiry, please include:
- A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light
- Your installation or service records
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
Quoting starts with a diagnosis, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your photos and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.

What else we do in East End
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and phone us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
What happens on the day
Think of the visit in three stages: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Photos of the existing unit help with repairs and servicing in East End.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
- Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
How to get a quote
To help us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, pictures of the rooms or units, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Once you have those, ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.
