Air source heat pumps in East Chiltington

An air-to-water heat pump costs £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers a £7,500 grant towards an eligible air-to-water installation, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Not every home qualifies, so we check eligibility before you commit. The work covers hot water cylinders, radiator systems and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, and common reasons people get in touch are planning and permitted development questions and a boiler that’s getting old.

Older and listed homes in villages like East Chiltington need extra care, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so we check consent first.

Each manufacturer sets its own warranty period. Daikin, for instance, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, with longer extensions only on its air-to-water heat pumps. For any other brand, we explain the manufacturer’s terms on your quote.

The process

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, and that takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. If a lane or gateway near East Chiltington is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

Questions from East Chiltington

Will a heat pump in East Chiltington need planning permission?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. There’s a conservation area, the East Chiltington Conservation Area, close to central East Chiltington. A heat pump on a house can be permitted development if it meets the conditions, including the MCS noise check, but not within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t face a road. Where needed, we check with the local planning authority (for East Chiltington, typically Lewes council).

Do you cover smaller places like East Chiltington?

Yes. East Chiltington is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day.

Which manufacturers do you install and repair?

We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.

Can I get a grant for an air-to-air heat pump?

A £2,500 grant is available in some cases. It will not apply if the system is an add-on next to a boiler, and it must cover the whole heating demand.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

How much VAT is charged on a heat pump in a home?

Under HMRC Notice 708/6, a heat pump installed in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%. For air-to-air systems, we confirm the VAT on your quote.

What warranty do I get?

Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. Daikin, for example, gives a standard 2 years on split air conditioning, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

Before you call an engineer

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

When something else is needed

A few issues sit outside what this work can do:

  • Any gas work on the existing boiler
  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Promising eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Systems last better with the right care. We suggest:

  • Use the settings explained at handover
  • Book a yearly service
  • File the MCS certificate safely

Should you have questions after the install, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll talk it through. A yearly service is a good habit.

Keep radiators and indoor units unobstructed so the heat can get into the room.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
