Air source heat pumps in Deane, done properly
An air-to-water heat pump heats water to a lower temperature than a typical boiler, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. We check each radiator against the room’s heat loss and anything that needs changing is in the quote. If you’re dealing with checking whether planning permission is needed and not knowing whether a grant applies, we can sort it out.
If your home in or near Deane is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.
Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we’re happy to talk you through them.

Different systems, different jobs
Air-to-air heat pumps
Since 2025, air-to-air heat pumps can also be permitted development in England, subject to the conditions. A unit used solely for cooling isn’t covered, so check with the council.
Outdoor unit position and planning
Under permitted development, the outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less and must meet MCS 020(a) and not be used solely for cooling. Listed building curtilages are excluded.

What happens on the day
On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. The work itself takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. For a place like Deane, the timing is set with you and the travel is our side of the planning.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- Cost, grant and VAT appear on one fixed-price quote.
- We install, commission and register the system under MCS.

Homes in Deane and heat pumps
About 40% of homes in the Deane area date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and about 86% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the last census (2021). For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Detached and semi-detached houses usually have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
If your home is one of the older properties near Church of All Saints, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs.

Owner checks or an engineer?
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Deane questions
Will a heat pump in Deane need planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The Deane Conservation Area takes in the middle of Deane. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Deane, normally Basingstoke and Deane council) first.
Do you cover smaller places like Deane?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we’ll tell you what to do first.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
Not the refrigerant work. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.
How much time does a heat pump install need?
Expect it to take several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. How much of the heating changes decides most of the time and the timing is set out with your quote.
Am I eligible for a heat pump grant?
Possibly. In England and Wales it pays £7,500 for an eligible air-to-water or ground source heat pump, and £2,500 for air-to-air under tighter rules. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 towards an air source or ground source heat pump until March 2027. We check your home against the rules at the survey.
Do you work on all makes?
We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
