About our air source heat pumps in Canada

As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Canada and the rest of Hampshire. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We will explain which type fits your home and why. Common call-outs are for checking eligibility for a heat pump grant and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, on air-to-air heat pumps, air-to-water heat pumps and radiator systems.

Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Canada, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

The records are your system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler and it’s worth keeping safe.

Before you call an engineer

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.

The process

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. If a lane or gateway near Canada is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is

Pricing air source heat pumps in Canada

Your quote is based on your property. We consider:

  • What electrical work the job needs
  • The equipment or parts the job needs
  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders

No two properties are the same, so each one gets its own fixed-price quote. The equipment, how we reach it, the route between units and the work needed all play a part.

Asking for a quote

What to send for a quote:

  • The make and model of the system, from the label
  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
  • Any error code or flashing light on the display

Getting a quote is straightforward. Call or email with a few details and we’ll come back to you the same working day. Where a survey is needed, we arrange a time that suits you.

Keeping the system healthy

Simple habits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Avoid switching the heat pump on and off often
  • Leave indoor units unobstructed
  • Look at insulation alongside the heat pump

Now and then in cold weather, the outdoor unit defrosts itself. It may give off steam or sound different for a few minutes, and that is normal.

Book a service every year. Check the manufacturer’s terms, as they may include servicing conditions.

Air source heat pumps around Canada

About 45% of homes in and around Canada have been built since 2000, according to VOA council tax data, and the last census (2021) found about 73% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Better insulated, newer homes are often a good match for a heat pump. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

Historic houses such as Landford Manor, about 2 miles north-west, are a reminder that listed homes need consent before a heat pump goes in. Every heat pump design starts with a room-by-room heat loss calculation.

Canada is about 5 miles north-west of Totton, in Hampshire. From the centre of Canada to the outskirts, we cover air source heat pumps, from small jobs to large ones. Our area takes in 683 places across Hampshire. You can also see our page for Guildford, roughly 48 miles from Canada.

We work across the SO51 postcode area and the streets around it. Close to Canada, our area also takes in West Wellow (1 mile north), Blackhill (1 mile east), East Wellow (1 mile east), Newbridge (2 miles south) and Plaitford Green (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Winchester (14 miles north-east), Eastleigh (11 miles east), Totton (5 miles south-east) and Chandler's Ford (9 miles east).

Around Canada

Locally, jobs take us to houses, flats and workplaces close to Rockingham Arms and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Romsey station, about 4.6 miles north-east. Well-known places in the area include Tatchbury Mount Hospital (3.5 miles south-east). Green spaces nearby include Copythorne Common.

Canada questions

Can you do air source heat pumps in Canada?

Yes. Canada is one of the places we cover. Just ring 07833 053749 or send an email with a few details.

Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Canada?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Canada is in England, where it applies. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?

Many installations on houses in England fall under permitted development, subject to the rules. Listed buildings and their curtilages are excluded, and listed building consent is a separate matter, so we check for your property.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.

Do you work on all makes?

We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

For refrigerant work, both the engineer and the company need the right F-gas credentials. It’s worth checking before you book, and we are happy to show ours.

Who is responsible for leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

A customer’s words

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
