Air source heat pumps around Beckley
About 80% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Older homes near The Parish Church of All Saints may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. Great Dixter, roughly 2.3 miles west, is a reminder to check your home’s listing status: permitted development does not cover listed buildings.

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Beckley
Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. The work covers air-to-water heat pumps, underfloor heating and hot water cylinders, and the jobs we see most are working out where a cylinder could go and working out whether radiators need upsizing.
Older and listed homes in villages like Beckley need extra care, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.
Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of their warranty. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Beckley
Can I fit a heat pump in Beckley without planning permission?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. A conservation area takes in the middle of Beckley. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Beckley, usually Rother council) first.
Is the heat pump grant available in Beckley?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Beckley is in England, where it applies. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and is not an add-on to a boiler. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
Do you work in Beckley?
Yes. We cover Beckley and across East Sussex, as part of our area across London and the South East. To book, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.
Which accreditations do you hold?
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.
Is the equipment covered by a warranty?
The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Terms differ by brand, and we set them out on your quote.
How quickly will you reply?
We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.
Before you call an engineer
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and phone 07833 053749 or send an email.

What affects the quote in Beckley
Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. What we look at:
- What state the existing equipment is in
- The brand, model and parts involved
- The size of the job
Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units all affect the cost. Each of those is built into the quote, and the price is fixed before work begins.
Helping us quote
Before you ask for a quote, gather:
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- Any error code or flashing light on the display
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
If you need air source heat pumps in Beckley, phone 07833 053749 or email us. Tell us what kind of property it is and what you’d like done, plus some pictures if they’re to hand. Enquiries get a reply the same working day.
What happens on the day
Each visit runs to the same pattern: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, carry out the job, test what we have done and talk you through it. On site, the work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Seeing the property in pictures first means the trip to Beckley can be planned properly.
- First, a chat about the property and your goals for the heating.
- The survey checks heat loss, emitters, hot water and the outdoor unit position.
- We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
- The system is installed and connected to the controls.
- We commission it, complete the MCS certificate and show you how to use it.
How to prepare
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time

Every quote shows the VAT clearly, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or email us.
