Common questions in Beansheaf Farm
Do you cover smaller places like Beansheaf Farm?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Is the heat pump grant available in Beansheaf Farm?
Beansheaf Farm is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.
Do you protect the property while you work?
We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.
Who is responsible for leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?
Often not in England, as many heat pumps on houses are permitted development, if the conditions are met. These include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), not being used solely for cooling and not being within the curtilage of a listed building.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
As a guide, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short and agreed before we start.
Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Beansheaf Farm
Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. Common call-outs are for questions about the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and working out where a cylinder could go, across underfloor heating, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and hot water cylinders.
Cottages and older homes near Beansheaf Farm can lose heat faster, so a proper heat loss calculation matters. Sometimes insulating first makes more sense.
Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, and we are happy to talk you through them.

How it works
We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Because we plan from photos or a survey, a job in Beansheaf Farm can typically be finished in one visit.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- We install, commission and register the system under MCS.
Preparing for the visit
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working
- Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
Ask for a quote
Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.
Advice
Let and managed properties
Portfolio owners often want one contractor and one number. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so a run of properties can go into one programme and kept on a regular cycle.
If you look after several properties, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so each one has its own history.
Keeping the system healthy
Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:
- Do not block radiators or indoor units with furniture
- Leave space around the outdoor unit
- Know the servicing conditions in your warranty
Equipment warranties come from the manufacturer. We go through the conditions with you, including any servicing they ask for.
Let the heat pump run steadily rather than switching it on and off, using the settings agreed at handover.

How we price air source heat pumps
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:
- What electrical work the job needs
- The type of system, from a single split to a larger system
- Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
Asking for a quote
Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
- Wide pictures of the room or the existing unit
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.
Air source heat pumps around Beansheaf Farm
The last census (2021) found about 72% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 5 within half a mile of the centre, such as Holybrook Cottage (grade II*). So the heat pump survey asks two extra questions here: is the home listed, and is it inside a conservation area?
Mapledurham House lies about 3.1 miles north. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions. If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Michael, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
