Commercial air conditioning across Upper Street

About our commercial air conditioning in Upper Street

Commercial air conditioning is a big part of what we do, for businesses in Upper Street and the rest of Hampshire. That includes offices, shops, restaurants, hotels, schools and server rooms, and each one gets a system chosen for how the space is used. Typical jobs include planning ahead for the HFC phase-down and commercial systems near the end of their life, on server and comms room cooling, ducted systems and VRF systems.

Around Upper Street, there’s usually space for outdoor plant away from the road.

Aftercare is simple, and most of it is in the manual: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

What affects the cost of commercial air conditioning

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:

  • How far the pipework has to run, and where
  • A single visit or a regular plan
  • The number of rooms, units or zones

Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Before you get in touch

Photos and a few facts are often enough to price a simple job. Useful things to send:

  • The rating plate or label on any existing unit
  • A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

How it works

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then the work itself, and finally we test, record and explain. The middle part takes longest, which takes a matter of days for a modest fit-out, with larger buildings phased floor by floor or zone by zone. Visits to Upper Street are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. An engineer walks the building with you to understand its layout, its users and its heat sources.
  2. You get a fixed-price quote with the equipment, the layout and the programme set out.
  3. Dates are set with you so trading, teaching or treatment carries on, using evenings, weekends or phases where it helps.
  4. The system goes in, from units and pipework to drainage, wiring and controls.
  5. Commissioning, F-gas records and a handover of the controls finish the job.

How to prepare

  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go

When something else is needed

Not every problem is solved by commercial air conditioning, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:

  • Structural alterations to the building
  • Boiler installation or repair
  • Fire safety design or fire risk assessments

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

What the work covers

  • VRF systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Server and comms room cooling
  • Ducted systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Multi-split systems

A bursar or site manager at a school like Breamore Church of England Primary School will want the install planned around the school calendar, and we work to that. For a church or hall like Church of St Mary, any outdoor unit needs the right consents first.

Ducted systems

A single ducted unit can feed several grilles, depending on the layout.

Server and comms rooms

A backup unit can keep the room cool if one fails and we can explain how they would work together.

Common questions in Upper Street

Will air conditioning in Upper Street need planning permission?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The centre of Upper Street is in the Breamore Conservation Area. Since 2025, an air-to-air heat pump on a house can count as permitted development if it meets the conditions and is not used only for cooling. Listed buildings still need consent, and in a conservation area a road-facing wall or roof is not allowed under those rules. If there’s any doubt, we ask New Forest council, which is usually the planning authority for Upper Street.

Will you come out to Upper Street?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

What warranty do I get?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.

Which accreditations do you hold?

AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.

How much time does a commercial air con install need?

It takes as long as the site and the system need, from a short install to a phased project planned around opening hours. The size of the building, the system and any phasing make the biggest difference and the programme comes with your quote.

What F-gas duties does a business have?

For systems at or above 5 tCO2e, the operator must have leak checks carried out and keep records. Checks are at least every 12 months from 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 to under 500 tCO2e and we carry out the checks and keep the records.
