What an install looks like in The Chart

On the National Heritage List, around 5 entries fall within 0.5 miles of the middle of The Chart; The Mill House (grade II) is one. If your property is listed or sits inside a conservation area, expect us to raise planning at the survey and to speak to the planning team at Tandridge council, which typically handles The Chart where it’s needed. About 42% of homes in the The Chart area date from 1945 to 1972, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and the 2021 Census found about 63% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. We check the wall construction on homes of that age, as it decides how the pipework goes through. A side passage or back wall normally gives the outdoor unit a home, and more than one bedroom can be cooled through a multi-split.

Chartwell (roughly 1.9 miles east) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on. Older streets near St Andrew's may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.

How we handle air conditioning in The Chart

Good air conditioning starts with the right system in the right place. Each room is assessed for its size, windows, direction and how it’s used, and we agree the unit positions and the route for the pipes, cable and drain, all before the price is fixed. Air con, air conditioning, a split system: whatever you call it, in The Chart it means the same thing to us: the right unit in the right place, fitted and commissioned properly.

Many installs in The Chart can go ahead as permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats need more care: we flag that at the survey.

Villages like The Chart often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and the outdoor unit position is chosen to suit the building.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, and we are happy to talk you through them.

Before you call an engineer

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749 or send an email.

When it’s something else

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • Central heating repairs
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll say what we think.

Parts of the system we cover

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ducted systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • VRF systems
  • Ceiling cassettes

The Chart: your questions answered

Is The Chart within the area you cover?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. Send a few details and pictures, and we reply the same working day.

Is The Chart in your area for air conditioning?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and The Chart is part of that. To start, phone us on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form with a few pictures.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

That depends on the brand. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we’ll tell you what your brand asks for.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for problems that can’t wait for a planned visit. Call 07833 053749 and tell us what’s happened.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We are an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.

Pricing air conditioning in The Chart

Our prices page gives typical ranges, and your quote is built on your job. The quote depends on:

  • Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
  • How many units are involved
  • The condition of any existing system

Our prices page shows typical ranges, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, gather:

  • A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by photos or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

What happens on the day

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Visits to The Chart are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

How to get a quote

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. Then you get a fixed price before any work starts.
