Air conditioning in Mereworth
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Whether you call it air con, air conditioning or an air-to-air heat pump, in Mereworth it means the same thing to us: the right unit in the right place, fitted and commissioned properly.
Many installs in Mereworth can go ahead as permitted development, but listed buildings, conservation areas and flats need more care: we flag that at the survey.
Space outside is rarely the problem in a place like Mereworth. The questions are more often the age of the walls, the electrics and how far the pipes need to run.
The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler, so keep it safe.

Homes in Mereworth and air conditioning
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures show about 58% of homes in Mereworth and the neighbourhoods around it were built in 2000 or later, and the last census (2021) found about 73% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Newer homes normally have cavity walls and loft space that make pipe runs easier, though some estates have planning conditions or covenants worth checking. Houses usually have a side or rear wall with room for the outdoor unit, and a multi-split can serve several rooms from one outdoor unit.
Homes near St Lawrence's Church are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it. Old Soar Manor, about 2.5 miles west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.

Common questions in Mereworth
Is Mereworth in your area for air conditioning?
Yes. Mereworth is one of the places we cover. To start, phone 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form with a few pictures.
Is planning permission needed for air conditioning in Mereworth?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The Street, Mereworth Conservation Area takes in the middle of Mereworth. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit isn’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where necessary, we check with Tonbridge and Malling council, which is normally the planning authority for Mereworth.
Do I need a new electrical circuit?
In most cases. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
How much does air conditioning installation cost?
It depends on the rooms, the system and the pipe route, but a single-room split is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Long pipe runs, difficult access, a new circuit and premium indoor units push the price up, and commercial systems are priced after a survey.
Are you F-Gas certified?
As the law requires for refrigerant work, we are an F-Gas certified company. We’re also NICEIC approved, MCS certified for heat pumps and Checkatrade members.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
We agree it with you on the survey. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and a position facing a road can bring extra planning considerations. We explain the options and any permissions to check.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
We start with protection: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts when we finish.
How the job changes from property to property
Electrical supply
Most systems need their own circuit from the consumer unit. We’re NICEIC approved, so we fit and certify the circuit ourselves, which takes care of the Part P notification.
Outdoor unit positions
Outdoor units are fitted on wall brackets, at ground level or on a flat roof, whatever suits the building and the route. It needs airflow around it and room for servicing.

Advice
Owner checks or an engineer?
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If a breaker trips again after you reset it, leave it off and ring 07833 053749 or drop us a line.
From one of our customers
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
