Air conditioning servicing in Hill Head

Air conditioning servicing for homes and businesses in Hill Head

A service is as much a check-up as a clean. The engineer checks fans, pipe insulation, controls and electrical connections, and tells you about anything that looks like it’s heading for trouble. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, multi-split systems and VRF systems, and people most often call us about leak check records that need bringing up to date and weaker cooling than last year.

In a village like Hill Head, outdoor units often face hedges, fields or gardens, where seeds and leaves collect on the coil. A yearly clean keeps the system working well.

Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of their warranty. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

Common problems we fix in Hill Head

Each indoor unit makes water when it cools, and that water needs a clear route out. Debris in the tray or a sticky pump can stop it draining and the result is drips from the indoor unit.

Customers usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • A service that is overdue
  • An unpleasant odour when the system runs
  • Drips or damp patches below an indoor unit

If you can’t remember the last service, it’s probably due.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
  • Whether testing, commissioning and paperwork are included
  • Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it

How to choose an air conditioning engineer

Safe owner checks

Don’t move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

Air conditioning servicing around Hill Head

The coast is only about 1 mile from Hill Head. A yearly service matters more near the coast, where salt speeds up corrosion on coils and fixings. Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 42% of homes in the Hill Head area to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and Census 2021 figures found about 78% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Access to the outdoor unit is the one detail that most changes how a visit is planned. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 4 within half a mile of the centre, such as Smugglers Cottage (grade II). That only matters for replacements, where a new outdoor unit on a protected building can need consent.

For a school like Crofton Hammond Infant School, maintenance visits can be booked out of term.

How the visit works

On the day, we arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and anything electrical is made safe before work starts. On site, it takes around an hour for one indoor and one outdoor unit, with extra time for each additional indoor unit. If a lane or gateway near Hill Head is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.

  1. First, we agree a time and confirm the cost of the service.
  2. We switch the system on and check it in operation.
  3. We clean the filters, coils and fans and clear the condensate drain.
  4. Electrical and refrigerant checks follow, including a leak check if the rules require one.
  5. It’s run once more to confirm all is well, and the record is left with you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
  • Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it
  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them

Hill Head questions

Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Hill Head?

It can. Hill Head is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. Regular servicing, with the outdoor coil cleaned and checked, helps a coastal system last.

Does my air con in Hill Head need a yearly service?

A yearly visit is right for most households. Some manufacturers’ warranty terms ask for regular servicing, so it’s worth keeping the records.

Can I do any of the installation myself?

Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That’s the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We are happy to quote for the full job, supply to commissioning.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we’ll propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

When is an F-gas leak check required?

The rules are based on tCO2e, which comes from the refrigerant charge and its GWP. At 5 to under 50 tCO2e, it’s at least every 12 months; at 50 to under 500 tCO2e, every 6 months. Hermetically sealed systems holding less than 10 tCO2e do not need them.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes. Each visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a different service or another trade:

  • A failed compressor, fan motor or circuit board, which needs a repair
  • Pipework or drainage that was badly installed in the first place
  • A system short of gas because of a leak

If you are not sure, just call 07833 053749 and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Parts of the system we cover
