Air conditioning in RH13: how it works
Good air conditioning starts with the right system in the right place. We look at each room’s size, glazing, orientation and use, then agree where the indoor and outdoor units go and how the pipework, cable and condensate drain will run, all before the price is fixed. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, air-to-air heat pumps and ducted systems, and the jobs we see most are too many options and no clear advice and an ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life.
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
- We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
- Connections are made, checked for leaks and pulled down to a vacuum.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.
What you’ll pay
Our prices page shows typical ranges, but your price depends on the job in front of us. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.

Getting a quote
Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. After a look at the job, by pictures or a survey, the price is fixed. To get going, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

Air conditioning across RH13
Planning rules are the same across England, RH13 included: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
An F-Gas certified company does the refrigerant side, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval.
Southwater: A loft bedroom or a glazed extension is often the room that prompts the first call. Living close to Holy Innocents Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.
What affects the quote in RH13
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
- Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
- What kind of system it is
- A single visit or a regular plan
Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: what’s needed, how we reach it, the parts and the labour. Ask for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.
What to send for a quote
You don’t need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- Your installation or service records
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
- The rating plate or label on any existing unit
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
When something else is needed
It’s worth knowing the limits before booking:
- A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
- An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
- Central heating repairs
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Tell us who the contact on site is and who should receive the paperwork and we will copy in whoever needs it.
From a single flat to a whole estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.
System by system
Ducted systems
Ducted air conditioning hides the indoor unit in a ceiling void or loft, and all you see is a discreet grille. It’s popular where people do not want a unit on the wall.
Electrical supply
We check the consumer unit on the survey, so any extra electrical work is on the quote rather than a surprise on the day. Older boards sometimes need more work to take a new circuit, and we explain why if so.
FAQs for RH13
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Most systems need their own supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.
How does the warranty work?
It’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which varies by brand. For example, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.
Do you have a 24/7 line?
Yes, 24/7. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before booking anyone, and we’re happy to show ours.
What does it cost to install air conditioning?
For one room, a split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. You get a fixed price before any work starts.
