How air conditioning works in HP10
Air conditioning is not only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, multi-split systems and VRF systems, and common reasons people get in touch are a home office that warms up with screens and equipment and a business premises that overheats in summer.
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Where we install in HP10
Planning rules are the same across England, HP10 included: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
We’re based in East Grinstead and work across London and the South East, HP10 included. Every job starts with a site survey or pictures, then a fixed-price quote.
Flackwell Heath: Living close to Christ Church? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is. With historic houses such as Cliveden about 2.9 miles south, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules.
Why deal with it now?
Refrigerant rules have changed what new systems use. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant cannot use F gases with a GWP above 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. Older R410A systems have a GWP of 2088.
What your quote should include
- If the figure could change on the day
- Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing
- Whether extra work needs your approval first
- Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
Why it fails
Loft rooms and top floors tend to suffer most. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.
These are the situations we see most often:
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
- Fans and portables that don’t keep up
- A loft conversion that is too warm to use
System by system
Outdoor unit positions
Where outside space is tight, the outdoor unit position shapes the whole design. We look at walls, roofs, balconies and yards on the survey and we flag any consent you may need.
Pipework and condensate drains
The indoor and outdoor units are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes, a cable and a condensate drain. The route is agreed before any drilling, and keep it as short and neat as the building allows.
Before you call an engineer
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.
Common questions in HP10
Can you fit air conditioning in a leasehold flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent and the survey looks at every option. This is general information, not legal advice.
What accreditations do you have?
We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are members of Checkatrade too.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us in HP10 and across Buckinghamshire. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.
Do you work on all makes?
We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?
Most of the time, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we are NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
Do you work in HP10?
Yes. We work across Greater London, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex, and that includes HP10.
Do I get paperwork after the visit?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
