Air conditioning across BN99: what to expect

Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, plus VRF systems for bigger commercial buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. The work covers air-to-air heat pumps, wall-mounted split systems and ceiling cassettes, and the jobs we see most are commercial rooms that are too warm for staff and rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in.

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. All we ask is clear access to the units, or to where they’ll go, and to the consumer unit. On site, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the property, or work from your photos for a simple job.
  2. Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
  3. We protect the area, then fit both halves of the system.
  4. We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

Air conditioning across BN99: local notes

Our air conditioning work across BN99 takes in places such as Goring-by-Sea and the smaller places around them. We cover every place we list for BN99, 1 in all.

Refrigerant work is done by F-gas qualified engineers for a certified company, while NICEIC approval covers the electrical work, in BN99 as everywhere else.

Goring-by-Sea: About 2.3 miles north-west stands Ecclesden Manor. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. If you commute from Goring-By-Sea station and work from home on other days, one wall-mounted unit in the home office is often all that’s needed.

Rented and managed buildings

We also work for facilities teams in offices, schools and public buildings across West Sussex. Larger buildings can be done in stages around the people who use them.

For anyone managing more than one building, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Each property gets its own records, so each one has its own history.

What we are called out for in BN99

Rooms in the roof are often the hardest to keep cool. Heat comes in through the roof and rises from the rest of the building, so a bedroom or office under the roof can stay warm well into the night.

Look out for any of the following:

  • An old system that needs replacing
  • A portable unit with a hose out of the window
  • A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
  • Old electric heaters you’d like to replace with something more efficient

Safe owner checks

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

There are a few things you can safely do yourself: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Opening up the units, the electrics and the refrigerant circuit are a job for us.

Honest limits

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)

FAQs for BN99

Where will you put the outdoor unit?

Wall brackets, ground level and flat roofs are all options, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. We also think about noise near bedrooms and neighbours, and the position can affect planning.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Responsibility is shared between the operator, typically whoever owns or controls the equipment, and the service technicians. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty comes from the manufacturer and depends on the brand and product. For instance, Daikin’s standard warranty on split air conditioning is 2 years, and we explain the terms for whichever brand you choose.

How do you size the system?

Floor area is only part of it. Windows, the direction the room faces, the roof above and the people and equipment in it all count, and we take them all into account on the survey.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes. There’s a 24/7 emergency line for breakdowns that can’t wait. Ring 07833 053749 any time and explain the problem.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. You will typically need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which brands do you work with?

We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.
