How air conditioning works in BN16
Most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. We’re often asked to deal with a portable unit with a hose out of the window and a business premises that overheats in summer, across ceiling cassettes, air-to-air heat pumps and VRF systems.
Where something has to be switched off during the work, we agree it with you first, so you can plan around it. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. The work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.
- Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
- Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
- Checks: a pressure test for leaks, then a vacuum to clear moisture.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Where we install in BN16
From Littlehampton, Rustington and Angmering outwards, BN16 has every kind of home. We survey every property before we quote, then a fixed-price quote.
From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps. In the coastal parts of BN16, outdoor units benefit from a sheltered position and regular servicing.
Rustington: If you work from home near Angmering station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Ecclesden Manor, about 2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it.
When something else is needed
We’ll always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what this work can’t put right:
- A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)
- An installation that needs consent nobody has given yet
- Central heating repairs
Landlords, agents and facilities managers
Records are where property maintenance often slips. Every visit is written up, with F-Gas records wherever refrigerant work is involved, ready for a tenant, a buyer or an inspection.
We work for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as homeowners and businesses. Tell us who the contact on site is and who should receive the paperwork and we’ll copy in whoever needs it.
System by system
Outdoor unit positions
Noise is part of the decision: away from bedroom windows and neighbours’ windows where possible and fitted so vibration doesn’t carry into the building. Position can also affect planning.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Commercial rooms often need more than one unit and controls that suit how the space is used. We size for the people, equipment and glazing in the space and we plan the installation around your opening hours where we can.
What happens if it’s left?
For homeowners, timing can matter for VAT: HMRC zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials in homes until 31 March 2027, after which the rate becomes 5%. HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but each case depends on the facts, so we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.
Questions to ask before you book
- Who does the electrical work, and whether they can certify it
- What paperwork you’ll receive afterwards
- If the figure could change on the day
- How VAT is shown, and which rate applies
Your questions about air conditioning in BN16
How long does air conditioning installation take?
It takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. We confirm the time when we quote so there are no surprises.
Why use an F-Gas certified company?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It needs space around it to breathe and room for an engineer to service it, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We will tell you what to check before we fit it.
Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?
The right one depends on how many rooms you want to cool, how much space there is outside and how visible you want the indoor units to be. Ducted systems need a ceiling void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling and the survey confirms what’s possible.
Can landlords and managing agents book you?
Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us across London and the South East. Tell us who should receive the paperwork.
Do you work in BN16?
Yes. We cover BN16 and across West Sussex, as part of our area across London and the South East. For a fixed-price quote, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
