Air conditioning across AL1: what to expect

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi are among the brands we fit. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons for it, and the manufacturer’s warranty terms are set out on your quote. The work covers ceiling cassettes, ducted systems and VRF systems, and people most often call us about not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and a room that’s unbearable on warm days.

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we let you know if plans need to move. On arrival, the engineer compares the job with the survey, your pictures or the details you gave us. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system.

  1. You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
  2. The system is sized, positions are agreed and the price is fixed.
  3. Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
  4. Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
  5. It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

Pricing in AL1

Getting a price

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Add the address and what you’d like done, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Where we install in AL1

In AL1, we install in places such as St Albans, Bernards Heath and London Colney and well beyond. We cover every place we list for AL1, 6 in all.

From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.

St Albans: If you work from home near St Albans station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Homes near Church of St. Peter are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.

Safe owner checks

Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Owners can handle the everyday basics: keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter, check the settings and the remote, and follow the cleaning the manual describes. Anything inside the units, the electrics and the refrigerant is engineer’s work.

Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in AL1

Your quote is based on your property. We take into account:

  • Access, including height, roofs and ladders
  • The brand, model and parts involved
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle
  • What kind of system it is

Putting several jobs into one visit often makes better use of the time. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed price.

Helping us quote

You don’t need the technical terms. Just send:

  • Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • Where the property is and what kind of building it is
  • The outdoor side of the property, including any roof or flat area

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because every property is different. Once we’ve looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, phone 07833 053749 or use the quote form.

What happens if it’s left?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. Since 2025, new single split systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant can’t use F gases with a GWP above 750, so new splits use refrigerants such as R32, with a GWP of 675. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088.

Different systems, different jobs

Electrical supply

A dedicated circuit is normally needed. As NICEIC approved contractors, we install it and issue the certificate and that covers the Part P side.

Wall-mounted split systems

Bedrooms, offices and living spaces are where wall-mounted units are most often fitted. We choose the position for even airflow and easy filter access rather than blowing straight at the bed or desk.

AL1: your questions answered

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

In most cases, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

Whoever operates the equipment, together with the technicians who service it. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

Certification shows a business is approved to work on systems that hold F gas refrigerant. That isn’t optional: it’s required by law, and we hold it.

How soon will you get back to me?

We reply to enquiries the same working day. If it’s an emergency, ring the 24/7 line instead.

What warranty do I get?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

It depends on the rooms and the building. A split suits one room, a multi-split several, a ducted system hides the unit, and a cassette spreads air across larger rooms. We recommend one on the survey and explain why.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

Often, yes, but there are extra steps. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, and we flag anything that may need permission. This is general information, not legal advice.
