Air conditioning for homes and businesses in St Albans

Any installation we do in St Albans follows the same process as everywhere else we work: survey, fixed-price quote, a neat installation, full commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. When someone in St Albans asks us for air con, the first questions are typically price and who will fit it. Our typical prices are on the site, and every install is done by F-Gas qualified engineers.

Where the outdoor unit goes decides how quiet and tidy the job is: airflow, noise towards neighbours, pipe length and access for servicing all count.

In St Albans, most installs are one or two bedrooms and a home office, or a living room that catches the afternoon sun. One room is usually a single split, while two to five rooms can share one outdoor unit on a multi-split, which keeps the outside of the house tidier.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

How the visit works

Our engineers bring the tools, gauges and access equipment the job needs. You only need to give us clear access to the units, or their planned positions, and to the fuse board. The visit takes anything from a day for one room to several days for a multi-room or ducted system. Photos of the existing unit and its label help with repairs and servicing in St Albans.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Advice

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
  • Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
  • A lack of fresh air (most split systems recirculate room air rather than bringing fresh air in, which is a job for ventilation)

If you are not sure, just phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Where we work

  • Ceiling cassettes
  • Multi-split systems
  • Ducted systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • VRF systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems

Looking after it afterwards

To keep the system working properly:

  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Wash or vacuum the filters as the manual describes
  • Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit

We show you how to take the filters out and clean them. Clean them every few weeks when the system is in heavy use, following the manual, and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clutter.

Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Leaves, plants, bins and stored items around it restrict the airflow, and the system has to work harder as a result.

What owners can safely do

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.

St Albans: your questions answered

Is planning permission needed for air conditioning in St Albans?

It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. The centre of St Albans is in the St Albans Conservation Area. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones can’t, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact St Albans City council, which is typically the planning authority for St Albans.

What’s the best way to get a price for air conditioning in St Albans?

Use the quote form, or email, with a description of the job. We reply the same working day, and the quote is fixed before any work starts.

How long does air conditioning installation take?

Allow about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. We confirm the time when we quote, so you can plan around it.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: survey or diagnosis, a fixed price and proper paperwork.

When will I hear back?

On the same working day you contact us. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Is there a survey before the work?

Yes. For simple jobs, photos and a few details can be enough, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.

What a customer said

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
