Let and managed properties

Running several properties is easier with one contractor. Our area covers Greater London and the South East, so work at different addresses can be planned together and kept on a regular cycle.

If you look after several properties, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so each one has its own history.

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Waldron

We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day so the system is sized to match. Guesswork leads to systems that are too big or too small. Typical jobs include working out where a cylinder could go and working out whether radiators need upsizing, across radiator systems, underfloor heating and air-to-air heat pumps.

Older and listed homes in villages like Waldron need extra care, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so consent comes first.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

Looking after your system

Simple habits make a real difference. Our advice:

  • Check what your manufacturer’s warranty asks of you
  • Keep radiators clear
  • File the MCS certificate safely

We show you how to use the controls and explain how a heat pump works differently from a boiler. Steady running suits a heat pump better than switching on and off, and we’ll explain the settings for your home.

Keep insulation and draught-proofing in good order because it reduces the heat the system needs to supply.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Waldron

Do you cover smaller places like Waldron?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Is the heat pump grant available in Waldron?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Waldron, if they qualify. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Is a heat pump permitted development?

Under the Planning Portal rules, a heat pump on a house can often be permitted development. Listed buildings and their curtilages are excluded, and listed building consent is a separate matter, so we check for your property.

Can you set up regular servicing?

Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Every visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Tell us the make and model and send any paperwork you have.

Which type of heat pump is right for my home?

Air-to-water heats radiators or underfloor heating and hot water; air-to-air heats rooms through indoor units and can cool them. With air-to-air, hot water needs another source and the survey helps decide.

Which accreditations do you hold?

We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We are also Checkatrade members.

The process

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. For a place like Waldron, the timing is set with you and the travel is our side of the planning.

  1. It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
  2. Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
  3. From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
  4. A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

How to prepare

  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area

Before you call an engineer

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Air source heat pumps around Waldron

The 2021 Census found about 69% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these. Waldron’s centre is no more than about a third of a mile from the Waldron Conservation Area. About 13 listed entries lie within half a mile of central Waldron, The Parish Church of All Saints (grade I) among them. Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with Wealden council, normally the planning authority here before the heat pump design is finished.

Older homes near The Parish Church of All Saints may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. A heat loss calculation decides the size of heat pump your home needs.

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
