Air source heat pumps near Upper Eddington

Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Upper Eddington

Air-to-air heat pumps can qualify for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, but only in some cases. The system must replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and meet the home’s full heating demand, it must be installed by an MCS certified installer, and it must be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. If the problem is a boiler that’s getting old and checking emitters for a heat pump, we can help.

Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Upper Eddington, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Warranty on the equipment is the manufacturer’s own, on the manufacturer’s terms, and we explain those terms on your quote. Terms differ from brand to brand, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

FAQs for Upper Eddington

Is the heat pump grant available in Upper Eddington?

Upper Eddington is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Can I fit a heat pump in Upper Eddington without planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The Eddington Conservation Area is close to the centre of Upper Eddington. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights don’t reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask West Berkshire council, which is typically the planning authority for Upper Eddington.

What accreditations do you have?

F-Gas company certification, NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Which brands do you work with?

We work with the leading brands, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. Photos often do the job for simple work, while larger systems and faults that need testing are seen on site.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. With air-to-air, hot water needs another source, and we explain which suits your home.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

The heat loss survey answers that, room by room. Rooms where the radiator is big enough stay as they are and any changes are in the quote.

Different systems, different jobs

Air-to-water heat pumps

Air-to-water systems take heat from the air and put it into your central heating and hot water. It takes over from the boiler and we install it to MCS standards.

Eligibility depends on the property and the scheme rules, so we check before you commit.

What happens on the day

The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. From there, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Visits to Upper Eddington are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
