Air source heat pumps across Theale

Heat pumps in Theale: local notes

About 43 miles out from central London, Theale is part of the South East area we work across. Roughly a third of a mile or less from central Theale, you reach the Theale High Street-Blossom Lane Conservation Area. In the mile around Theale’s centre, 4 conservation areas have been designated. Historic England lists about 27 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Theale, including Church of the Holy Trinity (grade I). For a heat pump, permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (normally West Berkshire council) where needed.

If you live near Theale station, the survey compares air-to-water and air-to-air for your home before anything is quoted.

Theale is about 4 miles west of Reading, in West Berkshire. From the centre of Theale to the outskirts, we cover air source heat pumps, from a single room to a whole building. About our air source heat pumps in Theale

For an air-to-water heat pump, the price is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales and the installer makes the application. Eligibility depends on the property, so we confirm it before anything is agreed. If the problem is working out whether radiators need upsizing and comparing heat pump types, we can help.

Whether a home near Theale has mains gas makes a difference to the grant. Until March 2027, homes on oil or LPG without mains gas can get an extra £1,500 through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: what was done, the refrigerant type and any amount added or recovered. Keep the records with the manual and the warranty documents, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

What air source heat pumps can’t fix

Air source heat pumps can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t put right:

  • Planning approval where permitted development doesn’t apply
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems

If you are not sure, just ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on in Theale

  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Radiator systems
  • Hot water cylinders

The process

Each visit runs to the same pattern: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, do the work, check the system and talk you through it. On site, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Photos of the room and the outside wall help us plan a job near Theale.

  1. First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you’re hoping for.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. We fit the outdoor unit and connect it to the heating, hot water and controls.
  5. Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.

Preparing for the visit

  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
  • Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board

How to get a quote

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.

Theale questions

Is the heat pump grant available in Theale?

Theale is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.

Will you come out to Theale?

Yes. Theale is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

How quickly will you reply?

The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Do you work on all makes?

Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and explain why.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. You get a written record of every visit, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.

Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes, 24/7. When you call, tell us the make, what’s happening and any error code, and we will advise on what to do next.

Why deal with it now?

If the emitters cannot give out enough heat, some rooms won’t get warm enough. Checking and upsizing them as part of the installation avoids that. Planning ahead for a job near Theale means we can arrive with everything needed.

Leaving a fault or an overdue service rarely makes the work cheaper. Small problems, from blocked filters to slow leaks, tend to get worse, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you’re not sure what’s needed, call 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we will give you an honest view and a fixed price.

Signs you need air source heat pumps in Theale

When a home is being extended or renovated, it’s a good moment to look at heat pumps. It’s simpler to plan radiators, pipework and a cylinder while the builders are in.

Customers usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Wanting to stop using oil, LPG or gas for heating
  • Radiators that may be too small for a heat pump
  • Checking whether planning permission is needed

If your home is one of the older properties near Church of the Holy Trinity, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

What to look for in a quote

  • What’s in the price and what is not
  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected
  • Proof of F-Gas company certification

How to choose an air conditioning engineer

From one of our customers

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
