Air source heat pumps in Stick Hill
As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Stick Hill and the rest of Kent. Air-to-water systems feed your radiators or underfloor heating and hot water cylinder, while air-to-air systems heat rooms directly through indoor units and can cool them too. We help you work out which suits your home. We’re often asked to deal with choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air and an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life, on underfloor heating, hot water cylinders and air-to-water heat pumps.
In a place like Stick Hill, some homes are listed, because permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
AirCon Doctor is an F-Gas certified company and NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Our engineers hold the F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

What happens on the day
The first job on site is protection: sheets over the floor and any furniture nearby and nothing is moved without asking you. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. The work on site takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system, and we clear up before we go. If a lane or gateway near Stick Hill is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.
- We start with your plans and the property.
- A survey covers heat loss, radiators, hot water and where the outdoor unit could sit.
- We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
- We install the heat pump and connect it up.
- After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.
Before we arrive
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Questions from Stick Hill
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Stick Hill?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. A conservation area takes in the middle of Stick Hill. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the planning department at Sevenoaks council, normally the authority for Stick Hill.
Will you come out to Stick Hill?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?
Heat pumps in homes carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, with 5% from 1 April 2027. Businesses pay the standard rate. This is general information, not tax advice.
Do you protect the property while you work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before we start, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
What’s the price of a heat pump installation?
Air-to-water installations cost £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. Air-to-air prices are set after a survey, and we confirm the VAT on the quote.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes. For anything urgent, such as a system failing in a server room or water leaking from a unit, ring our 24/7 line and we’ll tell you what to do first.

Radiators and underfloor heating
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators may need to be larger so we check them against each room’s heat loss.
Air-to-water heat pumps
The price for air-to-water is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. Eligible homes in England and Wales can get a £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant towards it and the installer applies.

Why it’s worth doing now in Stick Hill
Choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air is easier with the facts. Air-to-water works with radiators and a cylinder, with a £7,500 grant for eligible homes, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms and has a £2,500 grant only in limited cases. We explain which makes sense for you. A dirty or faulty system works harder and costs more to run.
A single unit or a whole estate, the quote is built the same way: what needs doing, how we get to it and what it needs. The price is fixed before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.
