Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Poynings

Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. If you have a combi boiler and no cylinder, the survey looks at where one could go. With air-to-air, hot water has to come from something else. If the problem is finding a place for the outdoor unit and ageing boilers that will need replacing, we can help.

For a home around Poynings that’s off mains gas and heated by oil or LPG, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump, on top of the £7,500.

For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

What happens on the day

The work area is kept tidy throughout, with sheets down and mess cleared as we go. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. Somewhere like Poynings, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.

  1. You tell us about the home and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. We survey for heat loss and look at radiators, cylinder space and outdoor unit options.
  3. We recommend air-to-water or air-to-air and check the grant position.
  4. We install the heat pump and connect it up.
  5. After commissioning, you get the MCS certificate and a handover.

How to prepare

  • Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
  • Let us know where we can park and unload
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area

How we price air source heat pumps

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We consider:

  • The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
  • How easy the units are to reach
  • One-off work versus a regular service cycle

Several rooms, units or sites on one quote often makes better use of the time. Mention every unit or room you need covered and we will price it together.

Asking for a quote

Simple jobs can often be priced from pictures and some basics. Send what you can of the following:

  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light

Here’s what helps us quote: the address and the type of property, a few pictures, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Then phone 07833 053749.

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different answer:

  • Promising eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer

Not sure which it is? You can give us a ring on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Homes in Poynings and heat pumps

Census 2021 figures found about 74% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Detached and semi-detached houses usually have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.

If your home is one of the older properties near The Church of the Holy Trinity, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. With Portslade Manor about 3.7 miles south, it’s worth asking whether your own home is listed before planning a heat pump.

FAQs for Poynings

Will a heat pump in Poynings need planning permission?

There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. The Poynings Conservation Area takes in the middle of Poynings. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the planning department at Mid Sussex council, usually the authority for Poynings.

Do you cover smaller places like Poynings?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes, always. New installations come with commissioning details, F-Gas records and warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

Will you make a mess?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we’ll talk you through the next steps.

Why use an F-Gas certified company?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. That isn’t optional: it’s required by law, and AirCon Doctor is certified.

Will skipping a service affect the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we’ll explain them, and book the service at the interval they recommend.

System by system

Outdoor unit position and planning

Permitted development conditions in England include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), and use for more than cooling alone. It can’t be within the curtilage of a listed building.

Air-to-air heat pumps

An air-to-air system heats rooms directly and can also provide cooling. They don’t heat hot water so you will need another way to heat it.

What a customer said

“Excellent service from start to finish. Two wall-mounted units installed in our home. Clean, tidy work: they protected all the floors and left no mess. The systems work brilliantly. Would highly recommend.”
