How we handle air source heat pumps in Poyle
A £2,500 grant is available for some air-to-air heat pumps, with conditions. It has to replace the fossil-fuel heating, cover the whole heating demand, be fitted by an MCS certified installer and be in a home, so an add-on next to a boiler is not eligible. Common call-outs are for planning and permitted development questions and working out whether radiators need upsizing, across radiator systems, hot water cylinders and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.
In a place like Poyle, some homes are listed, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

How the visit works
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. A note on how to find the property and where to park makes a visit to Poyle easier.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- We measure heat loss for every room.
- We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
- Installation, commissioning and MCS registration complete the job.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working
- Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Poyle: your questions answered
Is the heat pump grant available in Poyle?
Poyle is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Poyle?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Around 20 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Poyle. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with Slough council, which is normally the planning authority for Poyle first.
Are you F-Gas certified?
We’re an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work and MCS certified for heat pumps. We’re also Checkatrade members.
Do you survey before quoting?
Yes. Every job is looked at first, on a survey, or from your photos and details where the job is simple. Then you get a fixed-price quote.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We work on systems fitted by other installers as well as our own, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Do you cover Poyle?
Yes. Poyle is part of the area we cover, as part of our area across London and the South East. Our base is in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
What warranty do I get?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer, so keep your service records.

How we price air source heat pumps
The price is fixed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
- The pipe route between the units
- One-off work versus a regular service cycle
The cost depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.
What we need to know
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because every property is different. Once we have looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, ring 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk.
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. They come out, get a gentle clean and go back only when they’re dry. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
