Air source heat pumps near Ladwell

How we handle air source heat pumps in Ladwell

Air source heat pumps collect heat from outdoor air and bring it inside with electricity running the compressor and fans. The technology is close to air conditioning, which is why we install both, and air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes simply called air conditioning. The work covers underfloor heating, radiator systems and air-to-water heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are checking emitters for a heat pump and deciding on the outdoor unit position.

Older and listed homes in villages like Ladwell need extra care, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so we check consent first.

We are an F-Gas certified company, NICEIC approved for electrical work, with MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership. Refrigerant work is done by engineers who hold the F-gas qualifications the law requires.

Heat pumps in Ladwell: local notes

About 62% of homes in and around Ladwell date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and the 2021 Census found about 85% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder.

Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler. If your home is one of the older properties near Church of All Saints, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

How it works

If the system has to be off for part of the visit, we tell you before any work starts so it doesn’t catch you out. In a business, work can often be done one area at a time. The work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. If a lane or gateway near Ladwell is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.

  1. Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know where we can park and unload
  • Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Multi-room systems, commercial buildings and anything with a long or hidden pipe route are normally surveyed first. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.

Advice

When it’s something else

Before you book, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
  • Planning approval where permitted development does not apply

Not sure which it is? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

What the work covers

  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Radiator systems
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas

Keeping the system healthy

Systems last better with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Clear leaves and debris from the outdoor unit
  • Let the heat pump run steadily, as set up at handover
  • Seal draughts where you can

Once commissioned, we register the installation with MCS and give you the certificate. Keep it with the manufacturer’s paperwork, as you may need it later.

Keep insulation and draught-proofing in good order, as lower heat loss means the system has less to do.

Owner checks or an engineer?

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.

Common questions in Ladwell

Is the heat pump grant available in Ladwell?

Yes, the scheme covers homes in England, including Ladwell, if they qualify. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Will a heat pump in Ladwell need planning permission?

It depends on the property. Historic England lists about 9 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Ladwell. The permitted development rules for heat pumps leave out listed buildings and stop outdoor units going on road-facing walls or roofs in conservation areas. Anything outside the rules needs an application, and we raise it with the local planning authority (for Ladwell, usually Test Valley council) first.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

Air-to-water replaces the boiler for heating and hot water, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms. The survey helps decide. Both are part of what we install.

Can landlords and managing agents book you?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us in Ladwell and across Hampshire. Let us know who the records should go to.

When will I hear back?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

Will my radiators work with a heat pump?

The heat loss survey answers that, room by room. Where a radiator is already large enough, it stays, and any that need upsizing are set out in the quote.

Do you cover Ladwell?

Yes. Ladwell is part of the area we cover, as part of our area across London and the South East. Our base is in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

A customer’s words

“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
