Air source heat pumps for Hoppers Corner

About our air source heat pumps in Hoppers Corner

Air-to-water heat pumps heat your hot water through a cylinder. If you have a combi boiler and no cylinder, the survey looks at where one could go. With air-to-air, hot water has to come from something else. We’re often asked to deal with checking emitters for a heat pump and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, on underfloor heating, hot water cylinders and homes heated by oil, LPG or gas.

Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Hoppers Corner, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.

Nothing is signed off by word of mouth: commissioning details for an installation, a fault and repair note for a repair, or a record of the service. Keep it with the system’s paperwork, because it helps with any later warranty question.

Leave it or put it right?

The two types suit different homes and needs. Air-to-water works with radiators and a cylinder, with a £7,500 grant for eligible homes, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms and has a £2,500 grant only in limited cases, and we explain which fits your home. Planning ahead for a job in Hoppers Corner means we can bring everything needed.

Height, access and the distance between the indoor and outdoor units can all change the price. We take each of them into account, and the price is fixed before any work starts.

Hoppers Corner questions

Is the heat pump grant available in Hoppers Corner?

Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Hoppers Corner is in England, where it applies. The grant is £7,500 for an air source (air-to-water) heat pump and £2,500 for an air-to-air system that replaces the existing fossil-fuel heating. The installer applies, and we’re MCS certified.

Is planning permission needed for a heat pump in Hoppers Corner?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. The half-mile around the middle of Hoppers Corner holds about 17 listed buildings and structures. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the planning department at Maidstone council, normally the authority for Hoppers Corner.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. The interval depends on the refrigerant charge, measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.

Can I do the refrigerant work myself?

No, not the refrigerant side. The F-gas rules require certified companies and qualified engineers for it, and a new electrical circuit is notifiable building work unless a registered competent person does it.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. Homeowners, landlords, agents and businesses all book us across London and the South East. Let us know who the records should go to.

Do I get paperwork after the visit?

Yes, always. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.

How does the warranty work?

Warranty is the manufacturer’s own, on its terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.

How the visit works

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. The middle part takes longest, and that takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Visits to Hoppers Corner are agreed with you in advance and planned so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. It begins with your house and the heating it relies on now.
  2. Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
  3. The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
  4. You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
  5. Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.

Advice

What air source heat pumps cannot fix

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so here are the limits:

  • Tax advice on your own circumstances
  • Planning approval where permitted development does not apply
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer

If you’re not sure, just phone 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form and we will give you a straight answer.

Where we work

  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Underfloor heating
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Radiator systems

Before you call an engineer

Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

What a customer said

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
