Pricing air source heat pumps in Hilsea

Typical ranges are on our prices page, but every job is priced on its own. The quote depends on:

  • The condition of any existing system
  • Which make and model is being fitted or worked on
  • How far the pipework has to run, and where

What you pay depends on the type of system and how many units are involved, how easy the units are to reach and what the work involves. You get a fixed price before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
  • The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
  • A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number

For a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line and tell us about the property and what you need. A few photos make it quicker. You’ll hear back from us the same working day.

About our air source heat pumps in Hilsea

We begin with a room-by-room heat loss survey. It shows how much heat each room needs on a cold day so the system is sized to match. Guesswork leads to systems that are too big or too small. Typical jobs include comparing heat pump types and finding a place for the outdoor unit, on homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, hot water cylinders and underfloor heating.

Older homes around Hilsea can be draughty or have solid walls, which a heat loss calculation will show. Sometimes insulation first is the better investment.

Any work on the refrigerant circuit is recorded: the work carried out, the refrigerant involved and the quantities. File them with the system’s paperwork, ready for the next service or a warranty query.

How the visit works

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Seeing the property in pictures first helps us plan the trip to Hilsea.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
  3. A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
  • Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records

Getting a quote

Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Homes in Hilsea and heat pumps

The coast is only about 1 mile from Hilsea. Salt air is hard on outdoor units, so a heat pump near the sea needs a sensible position and regular checks, and some models offer corrosion protection for coastal sites. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 6 within half a mile of the centre, such as Gatcombe House (grade II). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the planning team at Portsmouth council, which typically handles Hilsea before the heat pump design is finished. Valuation Office Agency council tax records show about 35% of homes in and around Hilsea date from 1919 to 1939, and the last census (2021) found about 46% of households in terraced houses. For homes of that age, the survey checks the insulation, the radiators and the hot water setup. Shared walls keep a terrace’s heat loss down, while gardens next door make the noise check on the outdoor unit important.

If your home is one of the older properties near St Francis' Church, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Warblington Castle lies about 4.7 miles east. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions.

Hilsea is about 2 miles north of Portsmouth, in Portsmouth. Across the PO2 area, we cover air source heat pumps. Count every place we list in Portsmouth and you reach 19, with Hilsea on the list. You can also see our page for Worthing, about 29 miles away.

The closest recent job we can point to from Hilsea was on East Street, Chichester (PO19), about 13 miles east: installing a Daikin wall-mounted unit in the dining area and a second unit serving the kitchen pass area.

Vita Road, Conan Road and Arras Road and the roads off them are all inside our area. If your postcode is in PO2, PO3 and PO6, you are inside the area we cover. Larger places within reach include Southsea (3 miles south), Portsea (3 miles south-west) and Portsmouth Point (3 miles south-west).

Landlords, agents and facilities managers

Landlords, letting agents and managing agents book us, not only the people who live or work in the property. Tell us who the contact on site is and who should receive the paperwork and we will copy in whoever needs it.

Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We arrange the inspection, get the system ready and put right anything it picks up.

When it’s something else

We will not sell you work that doesn’t address the problem, so these are the things it will not cover:

  • Any gas work on the existing boiler
  • Improving the building’s insulation
  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems

If you’re not sure, just phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

FAQs for Hilsea

Is the heat pump grant available in Hilsea?

Hilsea is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. Air-to-water and ground source systems attract £7,500. Air-to-air gets £2,500, but only where it takes over from fossil-fuel heating and covers the whole home’s heating demand. As an MCS certified installer, we apply for it on your behalf.

Do you cover smaller places like Hilsea?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes, every time. We diagnose before we treat: the survey tells us what the job needs and how to do it, and the quote is based on that.

Is a heat pump permitted development?

Often not in England, as many heat pumps on houses are permitted development, if the conditions are met. The outdoor unit must be 1.5 m³ or less, comply with MCS 020(a), not be cooling-only and not be within a listed building’s curtilage.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

Air-to-water feeds your central heating and hot water, while air-to-air warms and cools rooms directly. Air-to-air doesn’t heat hot water, and we explain which suits your home.

What warranty do I get?

The manufacturer provides it, on its own terms. Some brands make regular servicing a condition, so keep your service records.

How quickly will you reply?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.
