Air source heat pumps across Green Street

Air source heat pumps around Green Street

Green Street is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the coast, we choose the outdoor unit position with salt-laden wind in mind. About 36% of households live in terraced houses, according to the 2021 Census. Terraced houses share walls with neighbours, which helps, but the outdoor unit position needs care with noise next door. Central Green Street is inside a conservation area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 6 within half a mile of the centre, such as Green Street Cottage (grade II). For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with Hastings council, normally the planning authority here where necessary.

If you live near Crowhurst station, the survey compares air-to-water and air-to-air for your home before anything is quoted. If your home is one of the older properties near The Parish Church of St George, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen.

How we handle air source heat pumps in Green Street

For an air-to-water heat pump, the price is £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme can provide £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water system in England and Wales, and as the installer we apply for it on your behalf. Not every home qualifies, so we check eligibility before you commit. The work covers homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, radiator systems and hot water cylinders, and people most often call us about working out whether radiators need upsizing and deciding on the outdoor unit position.

In a place like Green Street, some homes are listed, and permitted development doesn’t cover listed buildings, so consent comes first.

Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler and it’s worth keeping safe.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are usually the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.

Honest limits

Air source heat pumps can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It will not put right:

  • Grants for hybrid systems or replacements of low-carbon systems
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.

FAQs for Green Street

Is the heat pump grant available in Green Street?

Green Street is covered, as the scheme runs across England and Wales. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.

Do you cover smaller places like Green Street?

Yes. Green Street is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.

Should I choose air-to-water or air-to-air?

The right choice depends on the property and what you need. The grant is £7,500 for eligible air-to-water systems and £2,500 for air-to-air in limited cases, and we set out the options after the survey.

What warranty do I get?

It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.

Do you work on systems someone else installed?

Yes. We start with a proper look and tell you honestly what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. Any work is priced before it goes ahead.

How much time does a heat pump install need?

As a guide, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. The programme is planned to keep time without heating short and agreed before we start.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We will work out which band applies to yours.

Pricing air source heat pumps in Green Street

Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:

  • What kind of system it is
  • What we find on the survey or diagnosis
  • Whether the existing supply is suitable

What you pay depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, the access and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so there are no surprises.

Before you get in touch

You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:

  • Any previous service or F-Gas records
  • The address and the type of property
  • A short video of any fault, such as a noise or a flashing light

What we do, step by step

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Green Street.

  1. It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
  2. The survey measures heat loss room by room and looks at radiators, hot water and the best spot for the outdoor unit.
  3. The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
  4. The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
  5. Once it’s running correctly, the MCS certificate is issued and we show you the settings.

Before we arrive

  • Clear a path to the units and the space around them
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
