About our air source heat pumps in Burmarsh
An air-to-water heat pump heats water to a lower temperature than a typical boiler, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes and anything that needs changing is in the quote. If the problem is questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and deciding which kind of heat pump suits the home, we can sort it out.
If your home in or near Burmarsh is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, on top of the £7,500.
Some warranty terms depend on the system being serviced regularly by a qualified engineer. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight and each visit is recorded.

How we price air source heat pumps
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- The distance and route between the indoor and outdoor units
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
The price reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why every job is looked at first, and the price is agreed before any work starts.
Before you get in touch
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- Your installation or service records
- A few pictures of the room and the wall the unit is on, or will go on
For a fixed-price quote, phone us on 07833 053749 or send an email with the address and a few details about the rooms or units involved. Photos help a lot. We reply to enquiries the same working day.
Before you call an engineer
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrical side needs a competent person. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
How it works
Protection comes first: dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work and nothing is moved without asking you. After that, anything electrical is made safe and we start. It takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system, and we clear up before we go. Pictures of the space and where the outdoor unit could go let us plan the work in Burmarsh.
- Step one is understanding the house, how it’s heated today and what you’d like to change.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- The price comes back fixed and in writing, with the grant and VAT shown line by line.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in
- Find the manual or the paperwork for the system, if you have it

Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price before any work starts.

Homes in Burmarsh and heat pumps
Burmarsh lies within about 2 miles of the sea. Coastal sites are worth mentioning at the survey, as salt air affects the outdoor unit and its fixings. About 40% of homes in Burmarsh and the neighbourhoods around it date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and Census 2021 figures found about 88% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Houses normally have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. Historic England lists about 4 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Burmarsh, including Church of All Saints (grade II*). For a heat pump, permitted development doesn’t apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with the local planning authority (typically Folkestone and Hythe council) where necessary.
Live in one of the older houses around Church of All Saints? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. Westenhanger Castle lies about 3.5 miles north-east. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions.
Burmarsh is about 4 miles south-west of Hythe, in Kent. Your questions about air source heat pumps in Burmarsh
Does being near the sea make a difference to air source heat pumps in Burmarsh?
It can, as Burmarsh is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.
Do you cover smaller places like Burmarsh?
Yes. Burmarsh is within the area we cover across London and the South East. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Will my radiators work with a heat pump?
It varies from room to room. The survey compares each radiator with the room’s needs, so the quote covers any changes.
Is there VAT on a heat pump?
In residential accommodation, 0% until 31 March 2027 and 5% afterwards. The relief does not cover businesses, and this is not tax advice.
What’s the price of a heat pump installation?
Air-to-water installations cost £8,000–£16,000 (0% VAT on homes), before the grant. Air-to-air systems are priced after a survey, with the VAT confirmed on your quote.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
It depends on the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Which type of heat pump is right for my home?
Air-to-water replaces the boiler for heating and hot water, while air-to-air heats and cools rooms. The survey helps decide. Both are part of what we install.
Rented and managed buildings
We regularly work with managing agents. Tell us the property, the work and the access arrangements, and we’ll send a fixed-price quote.
Larger air conditioning systems in buildings need more than servicing: systems with an effective rated output over 12 kW need a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange it, prepare the system for it and fix what it finds.

A customer’s words
“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
