System by system
Air-to-air heat pumps
Air-to-air heat pumps warm rooms through indoor units and can cool them in summer. They don’t heat hot water so you’ll need another way to heat it.
Radiators and underfloor heating
At lower water temperatures, radiators give out less heat, and the survey checks each one.
Air source heat pumps in Boveney, done properly
As an MCS certified installer, we fit air source heat pumps for homes in Boveney and the rest of Windsor and Maidenhead. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We will explain which type fits your home and why. We are often asked to deal with questions about listed buildings or conservation areas and choosing between air-to-water and air-to-air, across homes heated by oil, LPG or gas, radiator systems and hot water cylinders.
Space for an outdoor unit is rarely an issue near Boveney, so the design focuses on heat loss and radiators.
Looking after a system is mostly common sense: clear space around the outdoor unit, the cleaning the manual describes and a service at the recommended interval. It also keeps you on the right side of any warranty terms that ask for servicing.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Boveney
Do you cover smaller places like Boveney?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Boveney?
The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. There’s a conservation area, the Boveney Conservation Area, close to central Boveney. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask Windsor and Maidenhead council, which is usually the planning authority for Boveney.
What VAT do I pay on a heat pump?
For homes, currently none: HMRC zero-rates heat pumps installed in residential accommodation until 31 March 2027, and 5% applies after that. Businesses and hotels pay the standard rate, and with air-to-air we confirm the VAT on the quote. This is general information, not tax advice.
How does the warranty work?
The manufacturer’s warranty, on the manufacturer’s terms. Each brand sets its own conditions and periods, so we explain them on your quote.
Which type of heat pump is right for my home?
Air-to-water suits homes with radiators and a cylinder; air-to-air suits rooms that need heating and cooling, and we help you choose. Both are part of what we install.
How quickly will you reply?
The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, and you get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Do you work on all makes?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.
Homes in Boveney and heat pumps
About 71% of homes across Boveney and its surrounding area date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and the 2021 Census found about 36% of households in terraced houses. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. In a terrace, the outdoor unit position and the MCS noise check need particular care.
Dorney Court lies about 1.2 miles north-west. Owners of listed homes need consent before a heat pump is fitted, so it’s one of our first questions.

What we do, step by step
The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: diagnose, treat and sign off. First we check the system or the space against the plan, then we do the work, and finally we test, record and explain. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. Somewhere like Boveney, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.
- It starts with a conversation about the home, the existing heating and your plans.
- A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you’re eligible for and the VAT explained.
- Fitting day: the outdoor unit is placed, the indoor side connected and the controls set up.
- Commissioning, MCS certification and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Before we arrive
- Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
- Dig out any previous service or F-Gas records
- Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Quotes don’t take long. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

What else we do in Boveney
Common problems we fix in Boveney
For homes with no mains gas, heated by oil or LPG, a heat pump is well worth considering. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme includes an extra £1,500, until March 2027, for air source or ground source heat pumps in homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas where the home is eligible.
Any of these is worth a proper look:
- Checking emitters for a heat pump
- Plans to switch to electric heating with a heat pump
- Checking eligibility for a heat pump grant
Period properties close to St Mary Magdalene's Church can suit a heat pump, though insulation and any heritage protection are checked first.
What your quote should include

- What paperwork you will receive afterwards
- Whether the quote is a fixed price
What owners can safely do
Do not move, re-route or disconnect units or pipework yourself. Moving a unit involves the refrigerant circuit, so it needs an F-Gas qualified engineer, and the electrics need care too. If you need something moved, we can quote for it.
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
A customer’s words
