Commercial air conditioning in Tower Hamlets
Buildings whose air conditioning totals more than 12 kW need a TM44 inspection at least every 5 years. An accredited energy assessor carries it out. We don’t carry out the inspection itself, but we prepare the system and do the work it recommends. Common call-outs are for ageing air conditioning that keeps breaking down and offices that get too hot in summer, across server and comms room cooling, VRF systems and wall-mounted split systems.
For a business near Tower Hamlets, there’s typically space for plant at the rear, which keeps them out of sight and easy to service.
Looking after a system is mostly common sense: keep the outdoor unit clear, follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning and book a service at the interval they recommend. That also helps where the warranty terms ask for regular servicing.

How we price commercial air conditioning
A fixed price needs a few facts first. We check:
- Whether the existing supply is suitable
- The pipe route between the units
- How easy the units are to reach
Putting the work off seldom saves money. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you are unsure, ring us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk for straight advice and a fixed price.
What we need to know
You do not need the technical terms. It helps if you can send:
- Your consumer unit or fuse board
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, a few pictures, the brand and model of anything already fitted and any symptoms, from error codes to drips. Then call us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form.
How the visit works
Every visit follows the same order: agree the plan on site, put the dust sheets down, do the work, test what we’ve done and explain it all to you. The visit itself takes a few days for a small shop or office, longer for VRF across several floors. We plan the visit to Tower Hamlets from the survey or your pictures.
- We visit the site to look at the building, how it’s used and what the system needs to do.
- The written quote is fixed and lists the plant, where it goes and the order of works.
- We agree a programme that suits the site, including evening, weekend or phased installation.
- The system goes in, from units and pipework to drainage, wiring and controls.
- Commissioning, F-gas records and a handover of the controls finish the job.
Preparing for the visit
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
Get a fixed-price quote
Photos are the fastest route to a quote: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and many jobs can be priced from that.
Advice
Tower Hamlets questions
Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Tower Hamlets?
It can. Tower Hamlets is within about 1 mile of the coast, and salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor units. We site outdoor units out of the worst of the sea wind where possible and can suggest models with corrosion protection where the manufacturer offers it.
Is air conditioning in Tower Hamlets permitted development?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. A conservation area takes in the middle of Tower Hamlets. Put simply: reversible systems on houses can be permitted development, cooling-only ones cannot, listed buildings need consent, and conservation areas limit outdoor units facing a road. When your property needs a decision, we contact the planning department at Dover council, normally the authority for Tower Hamlets.
Are you F-Gas certified?
We are an F-Gas certified company, with NICEIC approval for electrical work and MCS certification for heat pumps. We’re also Checkatrade members.
What’s the price of air conditioning for a business?
After a site survey, with a fixed-price quote. The number of zones, the type of system, access and timing all play a part.
Can I do any of the installation myself?
Anything that involves the refrigerant needs an F-Gas qualified engineer from a certified company. That is the law, not just our preference, and manufacturers expect it for their warranty too. We can quote for the whole job, from supply to commissioning.
Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?
Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine from all the leading brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.
Do you work on all makes?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we will take it from there.
Why act early in Tower Hamlets
For most systems from 5 tCO2e upwards, leak checks and records are required by law. Falling behind leaves the operator without the evidence the rules expect and a maintenance contract keeps them on track. An early booking makes the visit to Tower Hamlets easier to arrange.
Our prices page shows typical ranges, but each job is priced on what it involves. For a fixed-price quote, call us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk, and we’ll explain what it covers.

What commercial work looks like in Tower Hamlets
The coast is only about 1 mile from Tower Hamlets. Commercial condensers near the coast should be checked for corrosion on every maintenance visit. Food Standards Agency records list about 72 cafés, restaurants and staff canteens, about 8 hotels and guest houses and about 11 schools and colleges within about 1.5 miles of central Tower Hamlets. Restaurants, hotels, schools and care settings each need cooling designed for their hours and heat loads. About 46% of homes in and around Tower Hamlets were built before 1919, according to the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures, and the 2021 Census found about 45% of households in terraced houses. Where shops and offices sit below or beside homes, outdoor plant position and noise need extra care.
If you look after a school such as Priory Fields School, classroom, office and IT room cooling is usually installed in the holidays. For a church or hall like Church of St Peter and St Paul, any outdoor unit needs the right consents first.
