Air conditioning for homes and businesses in Trash Green

Air conditioning isn’t only for summer: most modern splits heat too. The Energy Saving Trust recognises that air-to-air heat pumps often go by the name air conditioning, so a well-chosen unit can be useful in winter as well as summer. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes called air conditioning, which is why many owners use theirs all year.

Villages like Trash Green often have older houses and cottages, some of them listed. We check that first, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building.

Equipment warranty comes from the manufacturer, on its own terms, and we set them out on your quote. Each brand sets its own conditions, so we go through them with you rather than leave you to find the small print.

Homes in Trash Green and air conditioning

Trash Green is about 42 miles from central London, well within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. About 80% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. A side passage or back wall normally gives the outdoor unit a home, and more than one bedroom can be cooled through a multi-split.

Mapledurham House (roughly 4.7 miles north) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.

What we’re called out for in Trash Green

Some people come to us for heating rather than cooling. Old direct electric heaters turn electricity straight into heat, while a heat pump moves heat in from the outside air, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. That is how most modern split systems work.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Uncertainty over the right type and size of system
  • A business premises that overheats in summer
  • Working from home in a room that gets too warm

Around Church of St Mary the Virgin, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.

What your quote should include

  • Proof of F-Gas company certification
  • Which VAT rate the quote uses, and why
  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected

How to choose an air conditioning engineer

Trash Green questions

Can you do air conditioning in Trash Green?

Yes. We work across London and the South East from our base in East Grinstead, and Trash Green is part of that. To start, call 07833 053749 or send an email with a few photos.

Do you cover smaller places like Trash Green?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. A few photos and the postcode are enough to get things started.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Systems below 5 tCO2e fall outside the set leak check intervals, while larger ones need checks at least every 12 months, or every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.

How long does it take to fit air conditioning?

Most single-room systems take a day. Multi-split, ducted and cassette systems take longer, and we tell you how long on the quote.

Do I need planning permission?

It can do. Heat pumps and cooling-only units are treated differently, and so are flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We point out anything that may need permission at the survey and the council makes the decision. This is general information, not legal advice.

Can I have air conditioning in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. Leaseholders normally need consent from the landlord or management company for an outdoor unit and holes through outside walls, so check the lease. Permitted development rules for flats are also tighter than for houses, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?

Usually, yes. We check your consumer unit on the survey and include any electrical work on the quote and we install and certify the circuit as NICEIC approved contractors.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to do much on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and we take it from there. Before we leave, the area is tidied and we explain what we’ve done. Somewhere like Trash Green, it helps to know about lanes, gates and where to park.

  1. First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
  2. Then the prescription: the right system and size for each room, on a fixed-price quote.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Testing: the circuit is pressure tested and evacuated before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go
  • Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
  • Keep pets out of the rooms we’re working in

Advice

Why deal with it now?

New systems now use lower-impact refrigerants. From 2025, single splits under 3 kg cannot use refrigerants with a GWP over 750, which is why R32, with a GWP of 675, is now common. R410A, used in many older systems, has a GWP of 2088. Waiting rarely makes an air conditioning problem smaller.

What you pay depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, the access and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Keeping the system healthy

A little care keeps the system in better shape. Our advice:

  • Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
  • Have the system serviced once a year
  • Keep the F-Gas records, commissioning details and warranty information together

The filters are the one part you’ll look after yourself, so we show you how. In busy periods, clean them every few weeks, or as the manual recommends, and keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clutter.

Give the outdoor unit room to breathe. Anything piled against it, from leaves to garden furniture, reduces the airflow, which makes the whole system less efficient.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
