How we handle air conditioning in Herne
A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and our NICEIC approval means we install and certify it ourselves. Most enquiries from Herne start with one hot room: a bedroom, a home office or a loft conversion. That’s normally a single wall-mounted split, from £1,200 + VAT.
Outdoor units around Herne often sit on the ground or a low wall bracket at the back of the house, where it’s out of sight from the road and easy to service.
Think of the paperwork as the system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer and it’s worth keeping safe.

What an install looks like in Herne
The coast is only about 2 miles from Herne. That is worth knowing for an install, as salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor coils and fixings, so we choose the position and fixings with that in mind. The last census (2021) found about 78% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Detached and semi-detached houses normally have space for the outdoor unit, and several rooms can share one on a multi-split.
Bedrooms under the roof and rooms with big sunny windows are usually the first to overheat, so they’re the usual place to start. Older streets near Church of St Martin may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
Herne is about 1 mile south of Herne Bay, in Kent. Herne gets the same approach as every job we take on: diagnosis first, a fixed price and proper paperwork when we’ve finished. In Kent alone we list 922 places and Herne is among them. Our Bromley page covers places nearby, about 48 miles away.
From St Martin's View, Ridley Close and Herne Street to the smaller roads in between, nowhere is left out. Jobs in CT6 are looked at, quoted and booked the same way as anywhere else. Other places close to Herne include Hunters Forstal (1 mile north-east), Eddington (1 mile north-west), Herne Common (1 mile south-west), Bullockstone (1 mile west) and Broomfield (1 mile north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Canterbury (5 miles south-west), Margate (11 miles east), Ramsgate (12 miles east) and Broadstairs (13 miles east).

What else we do in Herne
What air conditioning cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that will not help, so these are the things it will not cover:
- A ventilation problem rather than a temperature problem
- Damp or condensation caused by leaks or poor ventilation in the building (that needs the cause fixing)
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
If you are not sure, just phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
Parts of the system we cover
- Ducted systems
- VRF systems
- Ceiling cassettes
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Multi-split systems
- Wall-mounted split systems
What we do, step by step
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and run through the plan before anything else. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Because we plan from pictures or a survey, a job in Herne can typically be finished in one visit.
- You send pictures, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- Output, positions and price are settled before anything is booked.
- On the day, dust sheets go down and the indoor and outdoor units are fitted.
- Pipework, cable and drain are run, the circuit is connected and the pipework is pressure tested and evacuated.
- The system is commissioned, the controls explained and the F-Gas records handed over.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Mention any parking restrictions near the property
Getting a price
To help us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, a few photos, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Once you have those, call us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

Before you call an engineer
Write down what you notice: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It makes our diagnosis quicker, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Common questions in Herne
Does sea air affect air conditioning in Herne?
It can, as Herne is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. The outdoor unit position, its fixings and regular servicing all help near the sea.
Will air conditioning in Herne need planning permission?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Central Herne sits inside the Herne Conservation Area. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with Canterbury City council, which is usually the planning authority for Herne.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: a dated note of the work, with refrigerant details where they apply.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. Where servicing is a condition, a missed service could give the manufacturer grounds to refuse a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.
Can the outdoor unit go on a roof or at ground level?
It can go on a wall bracket, at ground level or on a flat roof, chosen for the pipe route, airflow and access. Noise near bedrooms and boundaries is part of the decision and position can affect planning.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
The main ones, including Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.
Do you protect the property while you work?
We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and we tidy up as we go. Before we leave, we clear up and run through the work with you.
After we have gone
To keep the system working properly:
- Don’t cover or box in the outdoor unit
- Avoid setting it far colder than you need
- Flag any change in how the system sounds or performs
We clear up before we go: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Pipework outside is covered in trunking or insulated and neatly fixed, so the job looks as tidy as it works.
Set it and leave it. Choose the right mode and a comfortable temperature rather than the lowest setting and keep doors and windows shut while it runs.
From one of our customers
“Very professional from the initial survey through to installation. The engineer explained everything clearly and the quote was exactly what we paid. Would not hesitate to recommend AirCon Doctor.”
