Air conditioning for Dover

How the visit works

We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we let you know if plans need to move. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems. Access to the outdoor unit position is the main thing to tell us about in Dover.

  1. We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
  2. The quote is fixed and shows the equipment, where each unit goes and what’s included.
  3. Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Last comes the run-up: every mode checked, the controls explained and the paperwork left with you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
  • Keep pets and children away from the work area
  • Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand

Ask for a quote

Our prices page gives typical ranges, but your quote is based on your job, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we’ve looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or fill in the contact form.

Advice

Air conditioning installation in Dover

Any installation we do in Dover follows the same process as everywhere else we work: survey, fixed-price quote, a neat installation, full commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork. The price is fixed up front and the records are handed over at the end. Modern air conditioning heats as well as cools: the Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes called air conditioning, which is why many owners use theirs all year.

Most houses around Dover have a side or back wall, or a patch of ground, where the outdoor unit can go. The position is chosen with the neighbours’ windows in mind, and the pipework is kept short and tidy, inside through a loft or outside in trunking.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

When something else is needed

We won’t sell you work that does not address the problem, so here are the limits:

  • Problems with a gas boiler or the radiators
  • Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
  • Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation

If you are not sure, just ring 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Where we work

  • VRF systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Ducted systems
  • Multi-split systems
  • Air-to-air heat pumps
  • Ceiling cassettes

System by system

Wall-mounted split systems

For one room, a wall-mounted split is often the simplest answer. The indoor unit sits high on a wall, the outdoor unit goes outside, and the two are joined by insulated pipework, a cable and a condensate drain, with the route agreed on the survey.

Multi-split systems

A two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. The route from the outdoor unit to each room is the main variable.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us

Before you call us about a fault, a few checks can save a visit: is the system in the right mode, is the set temperature sensible, are the remote’s batteries working and has the breaker tripped. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and give us a ring on 07833 053749 or send an email.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

Dover: your questions answered

Can you do air conditioning in Dover?

Yes. Dover is one of the places we cover. Tell us a little about the job and we will take it from there.

Will air conditioning in Dover need planning permission?

That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. Central Dover sits inside a conservation area. An air-to-air system used for heating as well as cooling can be permitted development on a house if it meets the conditions, but a cooling-only unit is not covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where needed, we check with the planning department at Dover council, usually the authority for Dover.

Can you come out in an emergency?

Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will advise on what to do next.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some warranty terms require the system to be serviced regularly by a qualified engineer, so check the terms or ask us. Keep every service record either way.

Do you protect the property while you work?

We put dust sheets over floors and furniture near the work first, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we’ve done.

What does it cost to install air conditioning?

From £1,200 + VAT for a single-room split, with a typical range of £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork, and we fix it after a survey or from your pictures.

Should I choose wall-mounted, ducted or cassette?

There’s no single best type. Wall-mounted splits suit single rooms, multi-splits run several rooms from one outdoor unit, ducted systems hide the unit in the ceiling, and cassettes suit offices and larger rooms. The survey ends with a recommendation and the reasons.

Air conditioning in Dover: the local picture

Dover is within about 2 miles of the coast. That is worth knowing for an install, as salt air speeds up corrosion on outdoor coils and fixings, so we choose the position and fixings with that in mind. Valuation Office Agency council tax records put about 39% of homes in the Dover area before 1919, and the 2021 Census found about 43% of households in terraced houses. Older homes often have solid walls, which take longer to core drill, so we plan pipe routes carefully and keep them as discreet as we can. Terraces have little side access, so the outdoor unit normally goes on the rear wall or a flat roof, with the pipe run kept short.

If your home is in one of the older streets near Parish Church of St Andrew Buckland, it’s worth checking whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before an install. If you work from home near Dover Priory station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool.
