Air conditioning repair for Old Town

Air conditioning repair in Old Town, done properly

For breakdowns that can’t wait, there’s a 24/7 emergency line, from an overheating comms room to water leaking from a unit. Ring 07833 053749 with the make, what’s happening and any code, and we’ll agree the next steps. We’re often asked to deal with air conditioning running but not cooling and a unit that barely blows any air, on heat pumps, ceiling cassettes and wall-mounted split systems.

We prepare for a visit to Old Town from the make and model you give us, and any part that needs ordering is priced before it’s fitted.

Whatever the visit, you get a written record: commissioning details and F-Gas records for a new system, a note of the fault and the fix for a repair, or a service record. Keep it with the system’s paperwork so it’s to hand next time.

How it works

Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes anything from an hour or so to a full day, depending on the fault and the parts. We load the van from the survey notes so the work in Old Town can be done in one go where possible.

  1. We start with what the unit is doing, the make and any code.
  2. A diagnosis visit finds the cause with proper tests.
  3. We explain the cause in plain English and give you a fixed price.
  4. Once you’re happy, the repair is done and any refrigerant work recorded.
  5. The system is run and checked, and you get a written note of the repair.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear access to the fuse board
  • Make sure someone can let us in at the agreed time
  • Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working

Getting a price

The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the inside and outside of the property where the work is, plus the rating plate of any unit already there. Add the address and what you’d like done, and many jobs can be priced from that.

Safe owner checks

Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.

Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.

What air conditioning will not do

Before booking, it helps to know what’s not included:

  • A refrigerant fault on an R22 system (new R22 can’t be used for servicing, so replacement is usually the answer)
  • An old system with obsolete parts
  • A room that overheats because of the building, such as a lack of shading or ventilation (the system may need help, not a repair)

If in doubt, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

Where we work

  • Ducted systems
  • Ceiling cassettes
  • VRF systems
  • Multi-split systems
  • Wall-mounted split systems
  • Heat pumps

How the job changes from property to property

Condensate drains and pumps

The condensate drain is behind most indoor unit leaks. Blockages, kinks and failed pumps are the usual causes, and a unit that has dropped out of level can leak.

VRF systems

On larger VRF systems, the refrigerant charge can be big enough to need regular leak checks under the F-gas rules. Any leak we find and repair is recorded, and the operator keeps the records.

Common questions in Old Town

Is the coast a problem for outdoor units in Old Town?

It can, as Old Town is within about 2 miles of the sea, where salt in the air is hard on coils and fixings. We look for corroded coils, fixings and connections on coastal repairs.

Who do I call if my air conditioning fails in Old Town out of hours?

Yes: ring the emergency line, day or night, from anywhere in Old Town. Tell us the make, model and any error code when you call; repair call-outs start from £75 + VAT.

My system uses R22. Can it be repaired?

Replacement is usually the better answer. New R22 can’t be used to service systems, and parts for older units are getting harder to find, so we will quote for a modern replacement and explain why.

Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?

It can, for some brands. Read the manufacturer’s terms, or send us the make and model and we will explain them and stick to the interval they set.

Is it legal to repair an R410A system?

Yes. We find and fix the leak, then recharge with R410A and record it in the F-Gas records and we will give you an honest view on whether it’s worth it.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, and repairs and services get a record of the work.

Will you work on another installer’s system?

Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including anything about the original installation that needs putting right. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.

What a repair looks like in Old Town

At about 2 miles from the coast, Old Town is close enough for sea air to matter. Coastal outdoor units can suffer from corroded coils and terminals, which can lead to poor cooling or trips. Old Town’s centre falls inside the Old Town Conservation Area. Draw a one-mile circle round the middle of Old Town and it takes in 9 conservation areas. Church of St Mary, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 28 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Old Town’s centre. Day-to-day work on an existing system isn’t affected; a replacement outdoor unit on a protected building might be. About 40% of homes in the Old Town area were built before 1919, according to VOA council tax data, and the last census (2021) found about 48% of households live in flats. Outdoor units serving flats can be awkward to reach, so let us know where yours is.

The rating label on the unit gives the model number, which helps us bring the right parts. If your system near Eastbourne station stops in a hot spell, our 24/7 line is open.
