Air conditioning in TW20: how it works

Single-room systems are typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT, while a two-room multi-split is typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT. Supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation are all included, and commercial VRF systems are priced after a survey. The work covers ceiling cassettes, wall-mounted split systems and multi-split systems, and the jobs we see most are expensive direct electric heating and not knowing which system, size or brand to choose.

The visit has three parts, a bit like a doctor’s appointment: look, put right and sign off. First comes a careful look at the system or the space, then we do the work, and finally everything is tested, recorded and explained. Most of the time goes on the middle part, which takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.

  1. We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
  2. Each room is sized and you get a fixed-price quote setting out the equipment and the unit positions.
  3. The units go up and the pipework, cable and condensate drain are run neatly between them.
  4. We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
  5. Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

What you’ll pay

Putting the work off seldom saves money. Faults and wear in a system tend to grow, and a struggling system uses more electricity to do less. If you’re unsure, give us a ring on 07833 053749 or email us for straight advice and a fixed price.

Air conditioning across TW20: local notes

Our air conditioning work across TW20 takes in places such as Egham, Staines-upon-Thames and Egham Hythe and the smaller places around them. Every place on our TW20 list (9 in all) is covered.

TW20 is within the area we cover from our base in East Grinstead. Every job starts with a site survey or photos, then a fixed-price quote.

Egham: Frogmore House, about 3.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. Around St John's Church, a quick check of the listing and conservation maps is part of planning any install.

Safe owner checks

On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are typically the one part owners can clean, if the manual says so. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.

Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the refrigerant circuit, the electrics and the parts you cannot see still need an engineer at the interval the manufacturer recommends.

What the work involves, system by system

Outdoor unit positions

We think about noise when we choose the spot: away from bedroom windows and neighbours’ windows where possible and fitted so vibration doesn’t carry into the building. It can also affect whether planning permission is needed.

Pipework and condensate drains

The indoor and outdoor units are joined by insulated refrigerant pipes, a cable and a condensate drain. The route is agreed before any drilling, and keep it as short and neat as the building allows.

Why act early?

There’s a tax point for homes: installing energy-saving materials in residential accommodation is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5%. Whether a particular system qualifies depends on the facts and we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.

What your quote should include

  • What records you get at the end
  • What happens if the job turns out to be different on the day
  • Proof of F-Gas company certification
  • Whether the manufacturer’s warranty depends on regular servicing

Signs you need air conditioning

In shops, offices and restaurants, the heat comes from customers, staff, equipment and lighting as well as the sun. Comfortable staff and customers are the usual reason businesses get in touch, along with keeping equipment rooms at a steady temperature.

Reasons to give us a call include:

  • A room that’s unbearable on warm days
  • Working from home in a room that gets too warm
  • Rooms heated by plug-in heaters
  • An old system that needs replacing

Questions from TW20

Do you look at the job first?

Yes. We always look before we price, either on a site survey or from pictures and details for simple jobs. A fixed-price quote follows.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. Every visit is written up, and any work on the refrigerant circuit goes in the F-Gas records. Keep them with the manual and the warranty documents.

Are you F-Gas certified?

F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, and we are Checkatrade members. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

In many cases, but permissions come first. You will normally need the landlord’s or management company’s consent for the outdoor unit and the pipe route, so check the lease. Planning rules for flats are tighter too, so we point out anything that may need permission on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

How much does air conditioning installation cost?

Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. The price includes supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation and is fixed after a survey or from pictures.

What size air conditioning unit do I need?

It depends on the room, not only its floor area. Glazing, orientation, the roof and what goes on in the room all affect it and the survey covers each of them.

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

In most cases, yes: modern splits are usually heat pumps, so they heat as well as cool. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
