How air conditioning works in SL2
Wall-mounted, multi-split, ducted and cassette systems are all part of what we install, with VRF for larger buildings. The right choice depends on the rooms, the building and how visible you want the indoor units to be and we talk you through it on the survey. The work covers wall-mounted split systems, VRF systems and ceiling cassettes, and common reasons people get in touch are a study or office that overheats during the day and portable units that are noisy and barely cope.
Anything involving refrigerant is handled by F-Gas qualified engineers, as the law requires, and electrical work is done by us as NICEIC approved contractors. On the day, both are in the same hands. The work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- You send photos, or we visit and survey the rooms and outside.
- Each room is sized and the unit positions agreed, then you get a fixed-price quote.
- Sheets go down first, then the indoor unit and the condenser are mounted.
- We run and connect the pipes, cable and drain, then pressure test and evacuate the circuit.
- It’s switched on, checked and handed over with its records.

For rail, the closest station is Burnham station, about 1.2 miles south-west of the centre. Where we install in SL2
Planning rules are the same across England, SL2 included: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. We are F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps.
Britwell: About 2.9 miles south-west stands Dorney Court. Listed homes in any area need consent first, so tell us if yours is one. Older streets near Church of St Mary may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
When something else is needed
We will always give you a straight diagnosis, so here’s what air conditioning won’t do:
- Work that needs permission from a landlord or the council
- Heat loss through very poor insulation (a system will heat the room, but insulation is a separate job)
- Damp from leaks or a lack of ventilation
Common problems we fix in SL2
Computers, screens, lighting and people all give off heat. A home office with a couple of screens, or a meeting room with a few people in it, warms up quickly, even on a mild day.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Rooms under the roof that stay hot into the night
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
- An office, shop or restaurant that is uncomfortable for staff and customers
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
What the work involves, system by system
Pipework and condensate drains
Cooling produces water as the air is dried, and the condensate drain carries it away. If gravity won’t do it, a condensate pump is fitted and we allow for that in the quote.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Commercial rooms often need more than one unit and controls that suit how the space is used. We size for the people, equipment and glazing in the space, and plan the work so the business keeps running.
Aftercare tips
Systems last better with the right care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Keep the handover documents somewhere safe
- Refit filters properly after cleaning
- Keep the room closed while it runs
- Book an annual service
We clear up before we go: sheets removed, packaging cleared up and pipe holes sealed. Pipework outside is covered in trunking or insulated and neatly fixed, so the job looks as tidy as it works.
Set it and leave it. A moderate set temperature cools the room just as well as the lowest one, without the waste, and close windows and doors while it’s cooling.
Common questions in SL2
Which type of air conditioning is best?
Number of rooms, space outside and how much of the unit you want to see all decide it. Ducted units need a void or loft, and cassettes need a suspended ceiling, which we check on the survey.
Does air conditioning need its own electrical supply?
Most of the time. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
How long does air conditioning installation take?
It takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer. The survey tells us how long your installation will need, so you can plan around it.
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Protection goes down first: dust sheets over floors and anything close to the work. Holes and fixings are agreed with you, and we clean up afterwards before we leave.
Does servicing affect my warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.
What accreditations do you have?
We hold F-Gas company certification, which the law requires for any business working on refrigerant. NICEIC approval, MCS certification for heat pumps and Checkatrade membership sit alongside it.
