Air conditioning in SG11

Air conditioning installation, repair, servicing and heat pumps in SG11, by an F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved company.

Our air conditioning service in SG11

A new system normally needs a dedicated circuit from the fuse board. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Typical jobs include fans and portables that don’t keep up and expensive direct electric heating, on VRF systems, ducted systems and ceiling cassettes.

Testing is the last part of the visit wherever the system can be switched on. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes a day or more, depending on the number of rooms, the pipe routes and the access.

  1. Diagnosis comes first, with a survey of the rooms, outside space and fuse board.
  2. Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
  3. The treatment: units fitted, pipework and drain routed, and the electrics installed.
  4. Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
  5. Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.

Pricing in SG11

One room or a whole building, the quote is built the same way: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before any work starts, and the quote sets out the VAT.

Why choose AirCon Doctor

Ask for a quote

Published ranges are a starting point; the quote is built on your property, because no two buildings, rooms or systems are the same. Once we have looked at the job, from photos or on a survey, you get a fixed price. To get going, phone 07833 053749 or send an email.

Around Puckeridge

Typical jobs here are in properties near Roger De Clare First CofE School, Church of St Mary and Crown And Falcon Public House, among other places. Nearby you’ll also find Moated mound (4 miles east).

Air conditioning across SG11

In SG11, we install in places such as Puckeridge, Braughing and Little Hadham and well beyond. We cover every place we list for SG11, 16 in all.

Across London and the South East, we reply to enquiries the same working day, and our emergency line is open 24/7.

Puckeridge: Much Hadham Palace, about 3.3 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses nearby, and if your own home is listed, consent comes before any air conditioning is fixed to it. Living close to Church of St Mary? Some older properties in parts like that are protected, and the survey finds out whether yours is.

Leave it or put it right?

For homeowners, timing can matter for VAT: HMRC zero-rates the installation of energy-saving materials in homes until 31 March 2027, after which the rate becomes 5%. HMRC says most air conditioning units are air source heat pumps, but each case depends on the facts, so we confirm the VAT on your quote. This is general information, not tax advice.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How extra work would be agreed if they find something unexpected
  • Whether anyone has checked the property or the system first
  • Whether you get F-Gas records where refrigerant is involved
  • Which brand and model they’re proposing, and why

Signs you need air conditioning

Many people try a portable unit first. Portables push their warm air out through a hose in the window, so the window can’t close properly and the noisy part of the unit is in the room. With a split system, the compressor lives outside.

What we’re most often called about:

  • A loft conversion that is too warm to use
  • A home office that warms up with screens and equipment
  • Commercial rooms that are too warm for staff
  • Bedrooms and offices that overheat in summer

Looking after it afterwards

Think of this as the after-treatment advice, in brief:

  • Choose a comfortable set temperature rather than the lowest
  • Have the system serviced once a year
  • Do not cover or box in the outdoor unit
  • Clean the filters every few weeks when the system is in heavy use

Before we leave, the system is commissioned and tested in each mode. We check it’s running as the manufacturer intends, then show you the controls and the timer so you know how to get the best from it.

Clean the filters regularly, not just at the service. Clean filters keep the air moving and help the system work as designed, which costs you more to run.

What the work involves, system by system

Outdoor unit positions

The outdoor unit can go on a wall bracket, on the ground or on a flat roof, depending on the property and the pipe route. It needs space around it to breathe and for an engineer to work on it.

Multi-split systems

With a multi-split, one outdoor unit serves two or more rooms. It saves wall space outside and suits homes where several rooms need cooling, with each room controlled separately.

SG11 questions

Can air conditioning heat my home as well?

In most cases, yes. A heat pump moves heat from the outside air into the room, so it gives out more heat than the electricity it uses. To replace your main heating, there are extra conditions, including for the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps.

How much is air conditioning for one room?

Typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT for a single-room split, depending on the room, the access and the pipe route. Where you sit in the range depends on pipe length, access, electrics and the model, while commercial systems are priced after a survey.

How soon will you get back to me?

The same working day. After that, we agree a survey, diagnosis or installation date that suits you, with a fixed price before work starts.

Do you look at the job first?

Yes, always. We diagnose before we treat: the survey shows what’s needed, where things go and what access we need, and the quote is based on that.

Is air conditioning possible in a flat?

That depends on the lease, the building and where the outdoor unit could go. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.

Do I need a new electrical circuit?

In most cases, yes: a dedicated circuit is needed. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and as NICEIC approved contractors we install and certify it as part of the job.

Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?

The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
