Air conditioning across RM18: what to expect
Not sure what you need, or where it would go? Send a few pictures of the rooms and the outside walls when you phone us on 07833 053749 or write to us at info@aircondoctor.co.uk, and you will hear back from us the same working day about a survey or a fixed-price quote. We’re often asked to deal with working from home in a room that gets too warm and an office, shop or restaurant that’s uncomfortable for staff and customers, across ceiling cassettes, multi-split systems and ducted systems.
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we show you what we have done and answer any questions, and anything that needs attention later is pointed out. All told, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- First the diagnosis: a survey of the rooms, the walls, the outside and the electrics.
- Next, a recommendation for each room and a fixed price.
- Then the work: units up, pipes and drain run, and a new circuit where needed.
- Before it runs, the pipework is proved tight and put under vacuum.
- Finally, the clean bill of health: commissioning, the controls explained and your paperwork handed over.
What you will pay
What you pay reflects the actual work. That is why we look at the job first, from pictures or on a survey, and the price is agreed before any work starts.

Getting a price
VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it on the quote. To get one, ring us on 07833 053749.
Landmarks near Tilbury

Air conditioning across RM18
Across RM18, from Grays, Tilbury and East Tilbury to the villages, homes range from older terraces and cottages to new estates and flats. Each install starts with a survey of the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go, then a fixed-price quote.
Refrigerant work is done by F-gas qualified engineers for a certified company, and the electrics come under our NICEIC approval. Parts of RM18 are on or near the coast, where salt air is hard on outdoor units. Outdoor unit position and regular servicing both help near the sea.
Tilbury: If you work from home near Tilbury Town station, a home office that overheats is one of the easiest rooms to cool. Homes near St John the Baptist are a good example of where we look up the heritage status of the building before fixing anything to it.
Let and managed properties
From a single flat to a whole estate, you get the same standard: diagnosis, a fixed price, access agreed with the people on site and paperwork at the end.
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. In a let or managed building, it’s worth agreeing who that operator is and we are happy to deal with whoever it is.
How we price air conditioning
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- Whether we need access equipment for high-level work
- Whether it’s a simple split or a larger system
- The electrical supply and whether a new circuit is needed
- What state the existing equipment is in
A single unit or a whole estate, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. The price is fixed before we start, and the quote sets out the VAT.
Before you get in touch
What to send for a quote:
- The outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits or would go
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- Photos showing the indoor unit and the space around it
- Any previous service or F-Gas records
Need a price for air conditioning? Please ring 07833 053749 or use the quote form with a few details about the property. We will talk you through the options and give you a fixed-price quote before anything is booked.
Leave it or put it right?
Fans and portables move warm air around rather than removing it. A properly installed split moves heat outside, keeps the noisy parts out of the room and most of the time heats too, so it earns its keep all year.
Comparing quotes
- Whether the company is F-Gas certified, and whether you can check it
- Whether a new circuit is included and who certifies it
- What records you get at the end
- If the quote is based on a survey, pictures or a diagnosis
System by system
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Bigger systems in buildings come with extra duties, including a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange and prepare for it.
Pipework and condensate drains
Air conditioning takes moisture out of the air when it cools, and the condensate drain carries it away. Where it cannot fall naturally to a drain, a condensate pump lifts it and we allow for that in the quote.
RM18 questions
How much does air conditioning installation cost?
Single-room systems start from £1,200 + VAT and are typically up to £2,200 + VAT. That covers supply, installation, commissioning and the F-Gas paperwork and is fixed after a survey or from pictures.
What accreditations do you have?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, and we’re Checkatrade members. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.
How does the warranty work?
It’s the manufacturer’s, and the terms are theirs. Some terms depend on regular servicing by a qualified engineer so it’s worth keeping the service records.
Can I have air conditioning in a flat?
It depends on the building and the lease. An outdoor unit can sometimes go on a balcony, roof or rear wall, with consent, and we check the options on the survey. This is general information, not legal advice.
Is RM18 in your area?
Yes. We work in RM18 and the rest of Thurrock, as part of our area across London and the South East. To book, call us on 07833 053749 or email us.
Where does the outdoor unit go?
The position is agreed on the survey, not on the day. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We’ll tell you what to check before we fit it.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s your proof of what was done: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
