Air conditioning in RM15: how it works
Most air conditioning needs its own electrical supply from the consumer unit. Under Part P, a new circuit is notifiable unless a registered competent person does it, and as NICEIC approved contractors we can install and certify it as part of the job. Typical jobs include a study or office that overheats during the day and not knowing which system, size or brand to choose, across ceiling cassettes, ducted systems and multi-split systems.
We keep the work area tidy as we go, with dust sheets down and offcuts and packaging cleared up. If we need to drill through a wall, we agree the spot with you first. On site, it takes a day for most single-room installations, with multi-split, ducted and cassette systems taking longer.
- We start by looking at the rooms, the walls and where the outdoor unit can go.
- Cooling loads are worked out room by room, and the written price names the make, the model and every position.
- On the day, we fit the indoor and outdoor units and run the pipework, cable and condensate drain.
- Once the electrics are connected, the pipework is tested for leaks and put under vacuum before any refrigerant flows.
- The system is commissioned and checked in every mode, and we hand over the controls, F-Gas records and warranty information.
What you will pay
One room or a whole building, we price it on the same basis: the work involved, the access and the equipment. You will have a fixed price before any work starts, with VAT shown clearly.

Air conditioning around RM15
Planning rules are the same across England, RM15 included: an air-to-air system that heats as well as cools can be permitted development on a house, but cooling-only units, listed buildings and outdoor units facing a road in conservation areas need more care.
From London flats to coastal homes and country cottages, London and the South East have every kind of property. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps.
South Ockendon: Close to Ockendon station? A small study or box room used for work can usually be cooled with a single indoor unit. Rainham Hall (roughly 4.3 miles west) shows the area has its share of heritage. A listed home needs consent before an outdoor unit or pipework goes on.
Why deal with it now?
Where the outdoor unit goes matters to you and to the neighbours. A good position keeps noise down and leaves room for servicing, and it can make a difference to planning. We agree it with you on the survey.
What your quote should include
- Which VAT rate the quote uses, and why
- Whether the price is fixed or an estimate
- What’s in the price and what is not
- Whether they hold F-Gas company certification, not just individual qualifications
What affects the cost of air conditioning
Before we fix a price, we need to know a few things. We look at:
- The condition of any existing system
- A single visit or a regular plan
- What kind of system it is
- How easy the units are to reach
What you pay reflects the actual work. That’s why we look at the job first, from photos or on a survey, and why the quote is fixed before we start.
What to send for a quote
Photos let us diagnose from a distance. The most useful are:
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- Where the outdoor unit is, or where you’d like it
- The fuse board and where it is in the property
- Wide photos of the room or the existing unit
For a fixed-price quote, phone 07833 053749 or drop us a line and tell us about the property and what you need. Photos help a lot. You’ll hear back from us the same working day.
Keeping the system healthy
Looking after it is simple, and it helps at the next service:
- Use moderate settings for comfort and economy
- Keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves, plants and clutter
- Keep the indoor unit’s filters clean
- Have the system serviced once a year
Commissioning is the last stage: every mode is tested before we go. Once it’s running properly, we take you through the controls and settings, so you are confident using it.
Have the system serviced once a year. The engineer cleans the coils and drain, checks the electrics and the refrigerant circuit and catches small problems early, and it keeps any warranty servicing conditions in order.
Rented and managed buildings
The F-gas rules share responsibility for leak checking between the equipment’s operator and the service technicians. Where a building is let or managed, the lease or contract should make clear who looks after the system, and we can work for either side.
For anyone managing more than one building, we can quote and plan the work across all of them. Every address has its own paperwork, so the files stay tidy.
FAQs for RM15
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. We offer maintenance contracts, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is written up and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
Which brands do you work with?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
Where will you put the outdoor unit?
We agree it with you on the survey. It must have clear airflow and space for servicing, and walls or roofs facing a road can raise planning questions. We will tell you what to check before we fit it.
Can I use air conditioning to heat a room?
Yes, most modern split systems run as heat pumps, so they can heat a room in winter. The Energy Saving Trust notes that air-to-air heat pumps are sometimes referred to as air conditioning. Some cooling-only models exist, so we confirm it for the model on your quote.
What does it cost to install air conditioning?
A single-room split system is typically £1,200–£2,200 + VAT. Two rooms on a multi-split are typically £2,800–£4,500 + VAT, and three to five rooms £4,500–£8,500 + VAT, including supply, installation, commissioning and F-Gas documentation. You get a fixed price before any work starts.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Most systems need their own supply from the consumer unit. Adding a new circuit is notifiable building work under Part P unless it’s done by a registered competent person, and we’re NICEIC approved, so we can install and certify it.
Is planning permission needed for the outdoor unit?
Sometimes. Heat pumps and cooling-only units are treated differently, and so are flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We flag anything that may need permission when we survey, and the council has the final say. This is general information, not legal advice.
