How air conditioning works in CT50
The best installations are planned before a single hole is drilled. We look at each room’s size, glazing, orientation and use, and we agree the unit positions and the route for the pipes, cable and drain, all before the price is fixed. The work covers VRF systems, multi-split systems and ceiling cassettes, and common reasons people get in touch are not knowing which system, size or brand to choose and fans and portables that don’t keep up.
Wherever the system can be run before we leave, we run it and check it in operation. Then we explain what was done and answer your questions, and anything that needs a follow-up is pointed out there and then. All told, the work takes about a day for a single-room system, longer for multi-room and ducted systems.
- We survey the rooms and the outside of the property, or work from photos and details for simple jobs.
- We size the system for each room, then send a fixed-price quote with the units and where they go.
- Brackets go on, the units are hung and the refrigerant lines, cable and drain are routed between them.
- We connect the supply, pressure test the pipework and evacuate it before the refrigerant is released.
- Finally, it’s commissioned, tested in each mode and handed over with the F-Gas records.

Around Cheriton
Around Cheriton, our work takes us to homes and businesses near Pent Valley Technology College, Church of All Souls and White Lion pub. Nearby too are All Soul's Church of England Primary School (less than half a mile north-west), The Folkestone Academy (1.1 miles east) and Lower Leas Coastal Park (1.7 miles south-east). The closest station to Cheriton is Folkestone West station, roughly 0.6 miles south-east of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Sandgate Castle (1 mile south) and Elham Valley Countryside Centre And Railway Museum (1.3 miles north-west). For a walk, there’s Sugar Loaf Hill.
Air conditioning across CT50
In CT50, as across England, the same permitted development rules apply: cooling-only units aren’t covered, listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road.
London and the South East cover everything from city flats to rural cottages. Our work is F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved for the electrics and MCS certified for heat pumps. CT50 includes coastal places, where salt in the air speeds up corrosion of outdoor coils and fixings. We choose positions and fixings with that in mind.
Cheriton: With historic houses such as Acrise Place about 3.4 miles north, it’s a reminder that older homes nearby may be listed, which changes the planning rules. Older streets near Church of All Souls may fall within a conservation area, so we check the planning position before choosing where the outdoor unit goes.
What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Write down what you notice: error codes, noises, drips, smells or a drop in performance. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo of the display helps even more.
Good habits make our visits easier, not unnecessary. Simple care keeps the air moving through the system, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.
System by system
Ceiling cassettes
A cassette sits flush in a suspended ceiling and spreads air in several directions and they’re a common choice for offices, shops and larger rooms.
Offices, shops and commercial rooms
Systems over 12 kW of effective rated output bring extra duties for the building, including a TM44 inspection by an accredited energy assessor at least every 5 years. We can arrange the inspection and get the system ready for it.
Fixed-price quotes for air conditioning in CT50
The diagnosis comes before the price. The main factors are:
- A single visit or a regular plan
- The brand, model and parts involved
- What we find on the survey or diagnosis
- The size of the job
Putting several jobs into one visit often makes better use of the time. Mention every unit or room you need covered and we will price it together.
Before you get in touch
A few details help us quote accurately. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- Where the property is and what kind of building it is
- The paperwork from the last service, if you have it
- A photo of the consumer unit with the cover closed
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
The quickest way to a quote is to send photos: the room or the existing unit, the outside wall or roof where the outdoor unit sits or would go, and the label on any existing unit. Tell us the address and what you need, and simple jobs can often be priced without a visit.
What we are called out for in CT50
Computers, screens, lighting and people all give off heat. A home office with a couple of screens, or a meeting room with a few people in it, warms up quickly, even when it is not especially hot outside.
It’s time to call us if you’re dealing with:
- A loft room or top floor that bakes in summer
- A portable unit with a hose out of the window
- Rooms that get too hot to sleep or work in
- An ageing air conditioning system near the end of its life
Common questions in CT50
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes, on every job. A new system comes with commissioning details, F-Gas records and the manufacturer’s warranty information, while repairs and services get a written note of what was found and done.
Can I fit air conditioning or a heat pump myself?
No, not the refrigerant side. Under the F-gas rules, it must be done by qualified engineers from a certified company, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P unless a registered electrician, such as a NICEIC approved contractor, does it.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before you book anyone and we will gladly show you ours.
Do you work in CT50?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, and that includes CT50.
Which brands do you work with?
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi and others. For new systems, we recommend a brand and model to suit the job and tell you why.
Will you need to do electrical work?
Typically, yes. The fuse board is checked on the survey, and any electrical work goes on the quote, and our NICEIC approval covers the installation and certificate.
Which accreditations do you hold?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.
