Heat pump installation in Wokingham
Air source heat pumps in and around Wokingham, from the first look to the final check and a fixed price agreed before we start.
- Moving away from fossil-fuel heating
- Not knowing whether a grant applies
- Radiators that may be too small for a heat pump
Honest limits
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’d rather say so up front. It doesn’t solve:
- Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
- Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation

Air source heat pumps in Wokingham
Hot water from an air-to-water system is stored in a cylinder. If you have a combi boiler and no cylinder, the survey looks at where one could go. Air-to-air systems do not heat hot water, so you’ll need another way to do that. If you are dealing with deciding on the outdoor unit position and working out where a cylinder could go, we can sort it out.
In Wokingham, some homes suit an air-to-air system instead, which heats and cools through indoor units. To get the £2,500 air-to-air grant, it has to replace the existing fossil-fuel heating and heat the whole home.
For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.
Common questions in Wokingham
Is Wokingham in your area for air source heat pumps?
Yes, Wokingham is within the area we cover. Tell us a little about the job and we will take it from there.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant in Wokingham?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Wokingham is in England, where it applies. For an air-to-water heat pump the amount is £7,500; an air-to-air system can get £2,500 if it replaces the fossil-fuel heating outright, meets the home’s full heating demand and isn’t an add-on to a boiler. The installer applies, and we are MCS certified.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. From one rented home to commercial buildings, the approach is the same: a look first, a fixed-price quote and written records.
Will you work on another installer’s system?
Yes. We look at it first and tell you what we find, including any issues with how it was fitted. You get a fixed price before any work goes ahead.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
Which accreditations do you hold?
F-Gas certified, NICEIC approved and MCS certified for heat pumps, plus Checkatrade membership. Our engineers also hold the individual F-gas qualifications needed to work on refrigerant.
Can you set up regular servicing?
Yes. Send details of the systems and how they’re used and we will propose a schedule and quote for it. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
Owner checks or an engineer?
For air conditioning, cleaning the indoor unit’s filters is the main job owners can do where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. On a heat pump, the equivalent is keeping the outdoor unit clear and checking the controls.
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. A suspected leak is our job, not yours.
How the job changes from property to property
Radiators and underfloor heating
Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators may need to be larger, and the survey checks each one.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants towards heat pumps: £7,500 for air-to-water (and ground source), and £2,500 for air-to-air with strict conditions. The installer applies.
The process
There’s very little for you to do on the day. Just let us in and point us to the units, or to where they’ll be fitted, and the rest is down to us. At the end, we tidy up and run through the work with you. In the busier parts of Wokingham, parking near the property is worth planning.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
- We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
- Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
- The system is commissioned and registered under MCS, and we show you how to use it.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture away from the wall where we’ll be working
- Tell us about access, such as roof hatches, high walls or locked plant areas
- Have the make and model of any existing unit to hand
Getting a quote
Getting a quote is straightforward. Send a few details and photos, and we reply the same working day. If we need to see the property first, we book a survey at a time that works for you.

Homes in Wokingham and heat pumps
The last census (2021) found about 77% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Houses usually have space for an outdoor unit and a hot water cylinder. The centre of Wokingham lies within a conservation area. Listed buildings are part of the picture here: about 17 within half a mile of the centre, such as Church of St Paul (grade II*). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with the planning team at Wokingham council, which usually handles Wokingham before the heat pump design is finished.
If your home is one of the older properties near Church of St Paul, the survey checks whether it’s listed or in a conservation area before the outdoor unit position is chosen. Homeowners near Wokingham station often ask whether a heat pump can take over from the boiler, and the heat loss survey answers that.
