Heat pump installation in Wimbledon, Greater London
Air source heat pumps in Wimbledon from an F-Gas certified company, with warranty terms explained brand by brand. Enquiries answered the same working day.

What owners can safely do
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Owner care supports servicing; it does not replace it. Clean filters and a clear outdoor unit help the system run as it should, but the inside of the units, the refrigerant and the electrics still need a qualified engineer.
About our air source heat pumps in Wimbledon
Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. Conditions include a maximum outdoor unit size of 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), use for more than cooling alone and a site outside the curtilage of a listed building. We check the rules for your property as part of the survey. Common call-outs are for checking eligibility for a heat pump grant and planning and permitted development questions, across hot water cylinders, homes heated by oil, LPG or gas and underfloor heating.
A terrace in Wimbledon shares walls with its neighbours, which helps keep heat in, as long as there’s a sensible spot for the outdoor unit and its noise is checked against the MCS planning standard.
The records are your system’s health record: a dated account of the work and the readings we took. If anything goes wrong later, it helps the next engineer and the manufacturer, so keep it safe.

Your questions about air source heat pumps in Wimbledon
Do I need planning permission for a heat pump in Wimbledon?
It comes down to the building and the spot chosen for the outdoor unit. Central Wimbledon is a short walk from the Wimbledon Hill Road Conservation Area. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask Merton council, which is normally the planning authority for Wimbledon.
Do I need permission to put air conditioning in my flat in Wimbledon?
Often, yes, but the lease and the freeholder normally have a say. Permitted development rules for flats are tighter than for houses, so we check the outdoor unit position and give you the details to send to the freeholder or managing agent.
Can we book visits on a schedule?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used and we’ll propose a schedule and quote for it. Leak checks required by the F-gas rules can be built in for larger systems.
Do you provide F-Gas records?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e, and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e.
When will I hear back?
The same working day. Then we agree a date that works for you, with a fixed price before work starts.
Do you work in Wimbledon?
Yes. Our area takes in London and the counties of the South East, Wimbledon included.
What air conditioning will not do
Not every problem is solved by air source heat pumps, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It doesn’t solve:
- Any gas work on the existing boiler
- Improving the building’s insulation
- Planning decisions, which rest with the council
If in doubt, phone us on 07833 053749 or send an email and we will say what we think.
What the work covers
- Underfloor heating
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
- Hot water cylinders
- Radiator systems
What we do, step by step
The visit goes in the diary at a time that works for you, and we keep you posted if anything changes. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the photos you sent. If something is different, we talk it through with you before carrying on. From there, the work takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. Some blocks in Wimbledon need contractor details in advance, so tell us what your building needs.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
- From those figures we size the heat pump and decide on radiators, cylinder and outdoor position.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any roof access, ladders or high-level work
- Unlock any gate, garage or side passage we need
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
Getting a price
Photos are enough for some jobs; others need a visit first. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, you get a fixed price before any work is booked.
Advice
Heat pumps in Wimbledon: local notes
The Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures put about 44% of homes in and around Wimbledon before 1919, and about 53% of households live in flats, according to the 2021 Census. Period properties can still suit a heat pump, but the design has to start from accurate heat loss figures. Flats are often harder for air-to-water systems, so we look at whether air-to-air suits better. In London, outside space and the rules for flats often decide which kind of heat pump suits.
For a home near Wimbledon station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better. Live in one of the older houses around St. Mark's Church? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Managing agents and facilities teams in Wimbledon
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We’re happy to deal with either side and send the records to whoever needs them.
Whether it’s one property or many, you get the same standard: a look at the job first, a fixed-price quote, work booked with the occupier and written records afterwards.
