Questions from Wilsley Pound
Will you come out to Wilsley Pound?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Is a heat pump in Wilsley Pound permitted development?
That depends on the building and where the outdoor unit goes. A conservation area takes in the middle of Wilsley Pound. On a house, an air source heat pump can often go ahead under permitted development, with an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 cubic metres and an installation that meets MCS 020(a), which includes a noise check. Those rights do not reach the grounds of a listed building, and conservation areas rule out walls or roofs facing a road. If that might affect you, we ask the planning department at Tunbridge Wells council, usually the authority for Wilsley Pound.
Will my radiators work with a heat pump?
Some radiators may be fine as they are, and some may need to be larger. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures, so radiators give out less heat so we check every radiator against the room’s heat loss.
Will you make a mess?
We start with protection: sheets over the floor and nearby furniture. Any drilling is agreed with you first, and we clear up the dust and offcuts before we leave.
Why does F-Gas certification matter?
Anyone installing, repairing or servicing the refrigerant side must be qualified, and their company certified. Ask to see proof before booking anyone and we will gladly show you ours.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, set at the interval the system and the manufacturer’s terms need. Each visit is recorded and F-Gas records kept where they apply.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A typical installation takes a few days for most air-to-water installations, with air-to-air systems often quicker. We plan the work so you are without heating for as little time as possible and agreed before work begins.
Air source heat pumps in Wilsley Pound, done properly
We install air source heat pumps in Wilsley Pound and across Kent, and we’re MCS certified. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We’ll explain which type fits your home and why. The work covers radiator systems, air-to-air heat pumps and air-to-water heat pumps, and common reasons people get in touch are finding a place for the outdoor unit and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas.
Older and listed homes in villages like Wilsley Pound need extra care, because permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, so consent comes first.
The records are your system’s health record: what was fitted or found, what was done and when. It makes the next visit quicker and any warranty question simpler, so keep it safe.

Rented and managed buildings
When the building owner and the occupier are different, the lease or tenancy agreement normally sets out who maintains what. We can quote either party and send the records to whoever needs them.
For anyone managing more than one building, we can plan visits across the portfolio and price them together. Each property gets its own records, so the files stay tidy.
How the visit works
Our engineers arrive at the time agreed with you and check the plan with you first. Dust sheets go down over floors and anything close to the work, and the electrics are made safe before any panel comes off. On site, it takes several days for an air-to-water system with a new cylinder, less for an air-to-air system. We plan the trip to Wilsley Pound around you.
- We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
- A heat loss survey works out how much heat each room needs, and we look at the radiators, the cylinder space and where the outdoor unit could go.
- You get a fixed-price quote, with any grant you’re eligible for and the VAT explained.
- The outdoor unit, the indoor equipment and the controls are installed and connected.
- We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any managing agent or landlord rules we need to follow
- Arrange for someone to be there to let us in
- Clear the space around the indoor unit, or where it will go

Here’s what helps us quote: where the property is and what kind of building it is, a few photos, the brand and model of anything already fitted and anything you’ve noticed, such as an error code or a noise. Then call us on 07833 053749, or email if that’s easier.

What you can do yourself, and what needs us
Refrigerant is off limits for anyone without the right qualifications. The law requires anyone working on equipment containing F gas to hold the right qualifications, and the company to be certified, and refrigerant lines can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
Write down what you notice: an error code, a new noise, a drip, a smell or a change in how well the system heats or cools. It helps us diagnose quickly, and a photo or a short video of the display is even better.
Different systems, different jobs
Outdoor unit position and planning
Permitted development conditions in England include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³, compliance with MCS 020(a), and use for more than cooling alone. Listed building curtilages are excluded.
VAT on heat pumps
Installing an air source heat pump in a home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, then 5% following HMRC’s rules on energy-saving materials. Businesses pay the standard rate.
Homes in Wilsley Pound and heat pumps
About 35% of homes in and around Wilsley Pound were built before 1919, according to VOA council tax data, and the 2021 Census found about 71% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Older homes can lose heat faster, so a room-by-room heat loss calculation, and sometimes insulation or larger radiators, comes before sizing a heat pump. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Older homes near Church of the Holy Trinity may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed. Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler.
