Air source heat pumps in Waterford

Air source heat pumps in Waterford, done properly

An air-to-water heat pump heats water to a lower temperature than a typical boiler, so radiators may need to be larger to give out the same heat. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes, and the quote sets it out. The work covers radiator systems, air-to-water heat pumps and hot water cylinders, and common reasons people get in touch are an oil, LPG or gas boiler near the end of its life and no space for a hot water cylinder.

Homes around Waterford normally have room outside for a heat pump, so the design comes down to heat loss, radiators and hot water.

If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than sell you work that won’t help, so here are the limits:

  • Tax rulings, which only HMRC can give
  • Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Insulation work, such as loft or cavity wall insulation

Not sure which it is? You can phone us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Where we work

  • Underfloor heating
  • Radiator systems
  • Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
  • Hot water cylinders
  • Air-to-water heat pumps
  • Air-to-air heat pumps

Looking after it afterwards

Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. A few tips:

  • Book a yearly service
  • Avoid switching the heat pump on and off often
  • Do not block radiators or indoor units with furniture

After commissioning, the installation is registered under MCS and you receive the certificate. Keep it with the manufacturer’s paperwork for future reference.

Don’t cover radiators with furniture or heavy curtains so the heat can get into the room.

Leave it or put it right?

Getting the sizing wrong causes problems that are hard to fix later. A room-by-room survey gets it right first time. Small faults tend to grow, so it’s worth dealing with them early.

Putting several jobs into one visit can make for a more efficient booking. Tell us about everything you’d like looked at, and you’ll get one fixed price.

How it works

Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. If a lane or gateway near Waterford is tight for a van, let us know and we will plan for it.

  1. We talk through your home, your current heating and what you want from a heat pump.
  2. On the visit we calculate what every room loses on a cold day, then check the radiators, room for a cylinder and outdoor unit options.
  3. We send a fixed-price quote that shows the equipment, the grant position and the VAT.
  4. Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
  5. We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking and loading
  • Let us know where the consumer unit is
  • Plan for pets to be kept clear during the visit

Some jobs can be priced from pictures, while others need a survey. Bigger systems, commercial sites and awkward pipe routes are normally surveyed on site. Either way, the quote is fixed before anything goes ahead.

Waterford questions

Is a heat pump in Waterford permitted development?

The answer turns on the property and where the outdoor unit would sit. Around 13 listed entries sit within 0.5 miles of central Waterford. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Waterford, usually East Hertfordshire council).

Will you come out to Waterford?

Yes, and the size of the place makes no difference to how we work. We are based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.

Can we book visits on a schedule?

Yes. Maintenance contracts are part of what we do, with visits at the interval your system and the manufacturer need. Each visit is written up, with F-Gas records where refrigerant work is involved.

Can you look at a system you didn’t fit?

Yes. Systems fitted by other companies are fine, on all the main brands. Send us the make and model, and any records you have.

Will I get records for the system?

Yes. Every visit is written up, including F-Gas records for any refrigerant work. File them with the system’s paperwork.

How much VAT is charged on a heat pump in a home?

Heat pumps in homes carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027, with 5% from 1 April 2027. Businesses pay the standard rate, and this is general information rather than tax advice.

What does F-Gas certified mean?

F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and we hold it.

From one of our customers

“Office air con broke down in the July heatwave. Called at 8am, engineer was here by noon and fixed within 2 hours. Brilliant emergency response. They now hold the service contract for the whole building.”
