Air source heat pumps in Owlswick, done properly
An air-to-water heat pump heats water to a lower temperature than a typical boiler which means some radiators may need upsizing. The survey shows which rooms are fine and which need changes, and the quote sets it out. The work covers radiator systems, underfloor heating and hot water cylinders, and common reasons people get in touch are ageing boilers that will need replacing and planning and permitted development questions.
If your home in or near Owlswick is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, an extra £1,500 is available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027, on top of the £7,500.
Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of their warranty. If that applies to your system, booking the service on time keeps the record straight, and every service is written up.

Looking after it afterwards
Every system needs looking after, and most of it is easy. Our tips:
- Clear leaves and debris from the outdoor unit
- Diary the next service
- Check what your manufacturer’s warranty asks of you
If you were eligible for a grant, we handle the application and keep you updated since the grant goes through the installer.
Leave space around the outdoor unit. Airflow is what it runs on so keep it unobstructed.
Air source heat pumps around Owlswick
Owlswick’s centre falls inside the Owlswick Conservation Area. Historic England lists about 4 buildings and structures within half a mile of the centre of Owlswick, including Stockwell Lane Farmhouse (grade II). Where a home is affected, the outdoor unit position is settled with Buckinghamshire council, normally the planning authority here before the heat pump design is finished. About 47% of homes across Owlswick and its surrounding area date from 1945 to 1972, according to VOA council tax data, and about 71% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to the 2021 Census. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Finding room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder is seldom a problem in homes like these.
Sizing comes from the heat each room loses on a cold day, not from the size of the old boiler. Older homes near Owlswick Chapel may need extra checks for planning and heat loss before a heat pump is designed.

Fixed-price quotes for air source heat pumps in Owlswick
The diagnosis comes before the price. We look at:
- The pipe route between the units
- Whether it’s a one-off job or part of a maintenance contract
- What state the existing equipment is in
What you pay depends on the system and the number of rooms or units, how easy the units are to reach and the parts and time the job needs. We give you a fixed price before any work starts, so there are no surprises.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- A close-up of the unit’s label showing the model number
- The remote or wall controller showing any error
- The postcode and whether it’s a home, flat or business
Every quote starts with a look at the job, either on a site survey or, for simple jobs, from your pictures and details. After that, we send a fixed price before any work starts.
What air conditioning will not do
An honest diagnosis matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what this work cannot put right:
- Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades
- Gas boiler work, such as disconnecting the old boiler, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Planning decisions, which rest with the council
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 and we’ll say what we think.
What the work covers
- Radiator systems
- Air-to-water heat pumps
- Underfloor heating
- Hot water cylinders
- Air-to-air heat pumps
- Homes heated by oil, LPG or gas
What happens on the day
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you don’t need a separate electrician for the electrical side. On site, it takes a few days on site, depending on the cylinder, the radiators and the pipework involved. If a lane or gateway near Owlswick is tight for a van, let us know and we’ll plan for it.
- We find out about your home and the heating you have now.
- Every room’s heat loss is worked out on site.
- The design covers the heat pump, emitters, hot water and outdoor unit.
- You get a fixed price, with any grant and the VAT set out.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can reach the consumer unit or fuse board
- Let us know if the building has a permit or sign-in process
- Move furniture away from the wall where we will be working

Related advice
Your questions about air source heat pumps in Owlswick
Is the heat pump grant available in Owlswick?
Owlswick is in England, where the Boiler Upgrade Scheme runs. Whether your home qualifies, and for how much, depends on the type of heat pump and the heating it replaces. You don’t apply yourself: the MCS certified installer does, which is us.
Is Owlswick within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Visits to smaller places are planned so the engineer arrives with what the job needs.
Will I get records for the system?
Yes. It’s the record a manufacturer or the next engineer will ask to see: the date, the work, and any refrigerant added or recovered.
Do you offer maintenance contracts?
Yes. Tell us what you have and how it’s used, and we’ll suggest a schedule with a fixed price. That can include the leak checks the F-gas rules require for larger systems.
Who has to arrange F-Gas leak checks?
The operator of the equipment, working with qualified engineers. Larger systems need regular checks: at least every 12 months from 5 tCO2e and every 6 months from 50 tCO2e. We can tell you which band your system falls into.
What does F-Gas certified mean?
F-Gas certification shows a company is approved to work on equipment containing fluorinated gases, such as the refrigerant in air conditioning and heat pumps. In Great Britain, that certification is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and AirCon Doctor is certified.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Send us the make and model if you have it.
