Air source heat pumps in Askett
Many air source heat pumps can be installed as permitted development in England, without a planning application. The conditions include an outdoor unit of no more than 1.5 m³ and compliance with MCS 020(a), and the unit cannot be used solely for cooling or sit within the curtilage of a listed building. We look at the planning position for your home during the survey. If you are dealing with checking emitters for a heat pump and questions about listed buildings or conservation areas, we can help.
If your home in or near Askett is heated by oil, LPG or electric heaters with no mains gas, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme adds an extra £1,500 until March 2027 for an air source or ground source heat pump.
For a fault on a system that may still be under warranty, send us the make, model and installation date. We’ll explain how the manufacturer’s terms are likely to apply before anything chargeable is done.

What owners can safely do
Never try to top up, release or handle refrigerant yourself. Under the F-gas rules, engineers need their own qualifications and the company must be certified, and escaping refrigerant can cause cold burns. If you suspect a leak, switch the system off and call us.
On air conditioning, the filters in the indoor unit are normally the one part owners can clean where the manufacturer’s manual explains how. With the power off, they lift out, can be vacuumed or rinsed and must be fully dry before they go back. For a heat pump, the main owner jobs are a clear outdoor unit and sensible control settings.
What happens on the day
Refrigerant work is done by qualified engineers working for an F-Gas certified company, while the electrical side is covered by our NICEIC approval. So on the day, you do not need a separate electrician for the electrical side. The work takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Seeing the property in pictures first means the trip to Askett can be planned properly.
- First we talk through the property and the current system.
- A heat loss survey is carried out, room by room.
- We design the system, check the radiators and cylinder and look at the outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote explains the cost, the grant position and the VAT.
- Then it’s fitted, commissioned and registered with MCS.
Before we arrive
- Clear a path to the units and the space around them
- Name a contact who can meet us at the agreed time
- Give us access to the outside wall, roof or yard where the outdoor unit sits
Getting a quote
VAT is set out clearly on every quote, and the rate that applies to your job is stated. VAT can differ between homes and businesses and between kinds of work, so we confirm it in writing rather than guess. To get one, ring us on 07833 053749 or drop us a line.

Questions from Askett
Does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme cover homes in Askett?
Yes, if the home and the heat pump meet the scheme’s rules: Askett is in England, where it applies. It gives £7,500 towards an air-to-water or ground source heat pump, or £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump that replaces the fossil-fuel heating and meets the whole home’s heating need. We hold MCS certification, so the application is ours to make for you.
Will you come out to Askett?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. A few pictures and the postcode are enough to get things started.
Which manufacturers do you install and repair?
We install and work on the leading makes, from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin and Fujitsu to Panasonic, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Hitachi. Tell us the make and model and we’ll take it from there.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
As a guide, it takes from a couple of days to around a week, depending on the system and how much of the heating changes. We plan the work so you are without heating for as little time as possible, and we explain it in advance.
How soon will you get back to me?
We reply to enquiries the same working day. For a breakdown that cannot wait, call our 24/7 emergency line.
Will skipping a service affect the warranty?
Each manufacturer decides. If servicing is in the terms, missing one could affect a claim and we will tell you what your brand asks for.
Will my radiators work with a heat pump?
It varies from room to room. We check them all during the survey and the quote shows what’s needed.
How the job changes from property to property
Hot water cylinders
An air-to-water heat pump heats hot water through a cylinder. Space for the cylinder is part of the survey particularly in homes with a combi boiler.
Radiators and underfloor heating
At lower water temperatures, radiators give out less heat, and the survey checks each one.
Homes in Askett and heat pumps
Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 47% of homes across Askett and its surrounding area to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and Census 2021 figures found about 71% of households in detached or semi-detached houses. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Detached and semi-detached houses typically have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder. The middle of Askett is part of the Askett Conservation Area. There are 4 conservation areas within a mile of the centre of Askett. Church of St Dunstan, listed at grade I, is one of roughly 20 protected buildings and structures in the half-mile around Askett’s centre. For a heat pump, permitted development does not apply within the grounds of a listed building, and in a conservation area the outdoor unit can’t go on a wall or roof facing a road, so we check with Buckinghamshire council, normally the planning authority here where needed.
For a home near Monks Risborough station, the survey looks at whether an air-to-water or air-to-air heat pump suits better. Live in one of the older houses around Church of St Dunstan? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status.

Why act early in Askett
For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. For homes that qualify, that’s a reason to look into it now. A system that’s left with a fault, or without a service, normally costs more to run.
Our prices page shows typical ranges, but each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a fixed-price quote, and we’ll explain what it covers.
