Air source heat pumps for homes and businesses in Old Windsor
We install air source heat pumps in Old Windsor and across Windsor and Maidenhead, and we are MCS certified. There are two kinds: air-to-water, which heats radiators or underfloor heating and your hot water, and air-to-air, which warms rooms through indoor units and can also cool. We help you work out which suits your home. If you are dealing with working out where a cylinder could go and moving away from fossil-fuel heating, we can help.
If your home near Old Windsor has no mains gas, the grant can be bigger. Homes heated by oil or LPG with no mains gas can get an extra £1,500 on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme until March 2027.
If a fault appears while the equipment is under the manufacturer’s warranty, tell us the make, model and installation date. We will tell you how the manufacturer’s warranty is likely to apply before any chargeable work goes ahead.

Leave it or put it right?
For eligible off-gas homes on oil or LPG, an extra £1,500 is on offer until March 2027. For homes that qualify, that is a reason to look into it now. A system that is left with a fault, or without a service, typically costs more to run.
Whatever the property, the quote works the same way: the equipment, the access, the work involved and the time it takes. Call for a fixed-price quote and we will go through it with you.

Old Windsor: your questions answered
Will you come out to Old Windsor?
We do. Villages and hamlets get the same service as the bigger towns. We’re based in East Grinstead and plan each visit so the job can be finished in one trip where possible.
Can I fit a heat pump in Old Windsor without planning permission?
There’s no single answer: the building and the outdoor unit position decide it. Central Old Windsor sits inside a conservation area. Heat pumps on houses are often permitted development, but listed buildings need consent and conservation areas restrict outdoor units facing a road. Where it’s needed, we check with the local planning authority (for Old Windsor, normally Windsor and Maidenhead council).
How do you keep the place clean during the work?
Floors and furniture near the work are covered with dust sheets before we start, and the area is kept tidy throughout. At the end, we clear up and show you what we have done.
Are my radiators big enough for a heat pump?
The heat loss survey answers that, room by room. Rooms where the radiator is big enough stay as they are and any changes are in the quote.
Can you come out in an emergency?
Yes, day and night. Call the emergency line and tell us the make, the symptoms and any error code, and we will talk you through the next steps.
Do I need to service the system to keep the warranty?
Check the manufacturer’s terms. Some manufacturers make regular servicing by a qualified engineer a condition of the warranty, so it’s worth checking. Either way, keep a record of every service.
Whose job is it to check the system for leaks?
The F-gas rules share it between the equipment’s operator and the engineers who work on it. How often depends on the size of the refrigerant charge in tonnes of CO2 equivalent: at least yearly for 5 to under 50 tCO2e, and every 6 months for 50 to under 500 tCO2e.
Before you call an engineer
Some faults have simple causes you can check first: check the mode, the set temperature, the remote’s batteries and the breaker. If the breaker trips a second time, leave it off and ring us on 07833 053749.
Leave the units and pipework where they are. Disconnecting a system means dealing with refrigerant, which only a qualified engineer can do, and the electrics need care too. Ask us to quote for a move instead.
Keeping the system healthy
Aftercare is straightforward, and it helps at the next service:
- Book a yearly service
- File the MCS certificate safely
- Do not block radiators or indoor units with furniture
If anything does not seem right after installation, ring us on 07833 053749 or use the quote form and we will talk it through. Annual servicing helps keep the system working well.
Keep radiators and indoor units unobstructed so the heat can get into the room.
What we do, step by step
We book the visit for a day and time that suit you, and we let you know if plans need to move. When we arrive, we check the job against the survey or the pictures you sent. Anything unexpected is raised with you before we go further. After that, it takes anything from a couple of days for air-to-air to the best part of a week for air-to-water with radiator changes. Photos of the existing unit and its label help with repairs and servicing near Old Windsor.
- First we find out about the property, the heating you have now and what you are hoping for.
- We survey the home room by room for heat loss, and check the emitters, hot water and outdoor unit position.
- A fixed-price quote follows, setting out the system, any grant that applies and the VAT.
- Installation covers the outdoor unit, the indoor connections and the controls.
- We commission the heat pump, complete the MCS paperwork and talk you through the controls.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know if the units are on a roof, a high wall or in a locked area
- Make sure we can reach the outdoor unit, or where it will go
- Tell us about any building rules, permits or sign-in

Advice
Heat pumps in Old Windsor: local notes
Valuation Office Agency council tax records date about 40% of homes in Old Windsor and the neighbourhoods around it to the post-war years, 1945 to 1972, and about 76% of households live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021 figures. Whether the walls and loft have been insulated makes a real difference to the heat pump size for homes of that period. Detached and semi-detached houses usually have room for the outdoor unit and a cylinder.
Live in one of the older houses around St Luke? Expect the survey to look closely at heat loss and at the building’s planning status. If your home is listed, like Frogmore House about 1.3 miles north-west, listed building consent comes before any heat pump work.
